I agree with everything you said about Blackbriar, and as someone who's not a musician I really do appreciate it when you get into the nuts and bolts, so to speak. I have been in love with them since I first heard them (I think that was the video for "Snow White and Rose Red", which also introduced me to Ulli Perhonen and by extension her band Snow White Blood), and I've only grown to appreciate them more ever since. I love the dark, haunting, sometimes creepy sound they have created. Their choice of subject matter, folklore, myth and ghost stories, certainly doesn't hurt either, as I've always loved that sort of thing too! Absolutely wonderful band.

To answer your question for an example of an earlier Blackbriar song would be the 2014 single titled "Ready to Kill". I recommend giving it a listen and seeing just how her newer songs compare to her first song.

Another great reaction. I really enjoy your insights and analysis, especially for Blackbriar. I love the heaviness of this song. One of the things I love about their music is how I always learn something I didn't know, especially about folklore or history. I really appreciate how the share the inspirations for their music . From the community tab on Blackbriar's YT channel. “I can hear the bluebells ring…” In folklore, it's said that to hear the ring of a bluebell is to hear one's death knell. It means that the fairies are gathering and heralding your death. In this song, I ask my muse to turn me into a cicada after I'm gone, so I can still sing to the one that I love. It's said that cicadas were once humans before there were any Muses. When the Muses came into the world, they enchanted some people into singing, they loved singing so much that they forgot to eat and sleep and died. The Muses rewarded them by turning them into cicadas who sing continuously without needing sustenance. Love, Zora " Thus the bluebells and the black figure (a Muse). Their music videos are always so exquisite and beautifully done. I love that other bands appreciate their artistry and are using them to make their music videos, specifically Dianne van Giersbergen's (ex Xandria) new solo single, After the Storm, kzread.info/dash/bejne/gpWNtNijn8i0qco.html, and Stream of Passion's (one of Marcela Bovio's and Arjen Lucassen's early projects) The Hunter, kzread.info/dash/bejne/qpaJsI-AY7e7qJc.html. Not sure if you are a Stream of Passion fan but after a 7 year hiatus Marcela and the band are reforming to do a couple of shows in September and are releasing an EP. Love the video work on both singles and the songs are just gorgeous and worth a reaction.

Thank you so much for this! I kept forgetting to mention the bluebells, and I was actually going to put a title plate in the video asking if anyone knew what they represented. Sadly while I was editing it completely slipped my mind. You're doing my job for me! 😝👍

Another good cinematic, symphonic band is Snow White Blood. Unfortunately, they've split now but their songs are really good. Their lead singer Ulli Perhonen did a song with Blackbriar - Snow White and Rose Red - which I love. The most cinematic of theirs is You Belong To Me with a guest vocalist (Danny Meyer) and a guest choir (Stimmgewalt)... Amazing song and a great video.

I am the one who loves blackbriar and was not sure of what exactly goes on on the background that makes it so magical. Thank you for your explanation!

I havent gotten back to them as I thought I'd let them cool off from the album launch and video releases. Also I kind of wanna get the whole interview thing right, so I'm working on setting up a new concept from that, still the same channel but a more focused presentation for long form Interviews. Podcast style.

I was waiting for this reaction! You are absolutely right: it's a crime that Blackbriar are not as known and loved as many other bands like Epica or Nightwish... I also totally agree on the uniqueness of their sound: despite every song telling a different story in just the way that story has to be told/sung, you can immediately recognize it's them! They're fantastic! 🖤 Are Blackbriar a thing in Australia? We have some of Zora's Patrons from there, but not that many. A coffee well deserved for you! As for "early Blackbriar", well... there's some VERY early Blackbriar in "Ready To Kill". That's completely different from what the band is now, though. You'd be surprised for sure, especially about Zora's singing. With the upcoming album, it seems they are sort of "looking back" at their first EPs: a lot of fantasy-like storytelling, even more "gothically fantastic" topics, and a bit of a different sound. Something like "Fractured Fairytale" is an example. But that doesn't have a video, so you might be interested in either "Preserved Roses" (with a video) or "Cry Of A Banshee - Acoustic" - it would be interesting to take a look at (and especially listen to) something acoustic from them, right? :)

Thank you so much for the info and also the generous support! I really only know of Blackbriar from my channel. I do know that Aussie metalheads are pretty inquisitive here though, so I'm not surprised that some have discovered these guys.

I really enjoy your reactions! Thank you so much for giving the band love. It's true that they deserve so much more. I could say much more about the matter, but my dear fellow Yulaiho already did just that. So I'll just sit back and enjoy^^
