TORCH // LYRICS
Every day cry out for the pain
Doesn’t matter anymore if what we say is true
It happened if I say it, your picture as I paint it
I have made the universe the way I wanted to
Will you burn down when I ignite the Torch?
In the moonlight playing your final march
Catching fire, taking in broken hearts
To live is to lie... so light the Torch
Kneel and pray - what’s the world today?
And who’s the holy one that I can kill to stay alone?
And If I take them down, will my lies found?
Deep inside the sun, my words become a gun
Every day cry out for the pain
Doesn’t matter anymore if what we say is true
Will you burn down when I ignite the Torch?
In the moonlight playing your final march
Catching fire, taking in broken hearts
To live is to lie... so light the Torch
Hold the Torch
Feel the warmth
Feed the flames
Congregate
To live is to lie... so light the Torch

I’ve never been one to comment on youtube almost ever. But I remember listening to this band in 2011 and everyone hating on me for it. I won’t ever say I was personally bullied in school because I wasn’t. But as a touring singer in a rock/metal band I can say one thing: don’t ever let anyone tell you what’s cool or what’s not. I remember 10 years ago when this band was a trend to hate on and it was fucking bullshit. I saw them on a headline tour (it was The Church Of The Wild Ones tour) like a week after they put out Wretched and Divine, and I knew that they were going to be fucking huge. I had so many people tell me I can’t succeed in music, and if this band was not a huge model of musicians that were told how much they suck and how much people didn’t believe in them, then the fact that they’ve stuck around this long is an obvious testament to the fact that all the people who hated on them were gatekeepers and taste makers that hated for the sake of hate. A band like this could never have lasted this long if they didn’t have what it takes to maintain and grow a fanbase. BVB meant a lot to me growing up and as a touring musician, I can only respect how they continued to push forward and get better and better even while people doubted them for so long. Clearly they’ve proven their staying power and they continue to put out great music and I respect them immensely for being something that made outsiders feel like it was possible to do this as a career. Also if you haven’t read Andy’s book, ya should. It adds even more perspective. Great song guys, for real. You’ve been more inspiring to me than you dudes may ever know. Hopefully I’m lucky enough to tour with you one day. Time will tell.

You nailed it man. I was on the hate train because they looked like an 80s hair metal band gone emo. Then I saw them live with Falling in Reverse (I happened to get free tickets) and was super impressed. I still think it's silly that they were using the pop-star microphones on their heads but musically they were incredible. And this was in like 2014 or 2015.

Most people think that metal sounds very agressive and abrasive. I want to point out that, as a sound engineer, those guys actually have a more *mellow* tone than a lot of rock band - the mix and tones are really emphasized around the low-mids, with the voice on top, and the guitars melting into each-other with the additions of some violin, keys and drum samples for good measure. It sounds like a band should sound, like one giant musician, whereas many metal bands struggle to have a truly cohesive sound because everything is percussive. The cymbals for instance are really supporting the guitars and they're darker than most, not abrasive sounding at all. It's a very powerful sound. Slight autotune on parts but well used and not shocking at all. Very nice :)

I read part of his memoir where he said one of their albums (I believe it was Wretched and Divine) he could not perform hardly any of the songs live, because it was impossible for him. He credits his ability to sing higher and better now to his sobriety, and that the alcohol caused a lot of issues to his voice and range. People don't like the way he sounds now, but honestly I think he sounds so much better and it shows how far he's come as a performer and songwriter.
