These next two episodes are some of the best TV ever made. At least until they get to the end of season 3. This show just keeps getting better!

I really love Abigail's narration of this episode. Also a smooth move on Flint's part to tell her Billy's backstory because she can relate to the idea of being stolen from your family and fearing you will never see them again. It makes the pirates people she can relate to. She can even relate to Billy killing his abductors because her first response to Vane saying he'd killed Ned Lowe was "Good". Which was my reaction when I realized it was Alfred Hamilton that Flint killed on the Maria Aleyne. "Good! Do it again!". 😂 Can't wait for you to see the rest of this season. It's a nail biting ride until the series finale, honestly.

See the way we get Billy's backstory? And they waited 16 episodes. Stands his character on firm ground and we find out how and why he's a pirate. I was totally drawn in. Brilliant. Love me some backstory.

It's such a bummer that this show got lost in the weeds and never became popular. This is one of my favorite shows ever. Writing, acting, characters, and story are all fantastic.

Abigail is one of my favourites. She has a quiet strength to her after all the events she's been through. I especially like the way she describes the pirates and Flint in particular. Such colourful writing.

So happy to see you get back into Black Sails reactions! You are in for a wild ride, we are about to start my favourite season :) Something Black Sails is really good at is delivering consequences for people's actions. Like with Flint murdering Alfred Hamilton, or Eleanor murdering the Ranger crew, which both happened in Season one, and have consequences in Season 2. When you make a choice, you have to live with the aftermath. And it's not always fair. But it happens. I really liked your observation about how the characters are relatable, even though they are 18th century pirates. I think it's because Black Sails is very much about what it means to be human. Personally, I am especially fascinated by its discussions around shame. Black Sails tells the story of humans at the frontier, when they are no longer following societal rules and etiquette, but are figuring out what a "good life" is. For Flint it would be walking away from the sea and find some peace. For Vane it is complete freedom. For Miranda, it is community. We relate to these dreams. And we relate to the emotions the characters feel, because we feel them. We see others feel them all around us. Black Sails is about the dismantling the stories and looking at the people behind them, who are, after all, human. Can't wait for your reaction to the next episode!!

Video feedback: I think cutting to the full screen of the webcam is preferable over zooming in on the mini webcam. The latter is of lower quality and more pixelated than the full webcam footage. A more minor grip would be to move the webcam when it obscures the face of whoever is talking on screen but that would involve more editing that you might be bothered with.

I think Flint needed to go ashore to prove his good intentions to lord Ashe. It shows that his intentions are not malicious given the risk he is taking my coming ashore in a royal colony to a governor who has a reputation as a pirate hunter. This is an extremely under appreciated episode. It highlights both the common knowledge of pirates brutality and dispenses the romanticism around it and yet at the same time, it also provides light onto the fact that many of these men, like Billy, are just men adrift from society. They are sailors that just have to exist as any man does both reflecting villainy and virtue alike. And knowing that they are outlaws but also just living as men at sea do. Btw…GET READY for these next two. Loved the reaction and it made me appreciate even more this often passed by episode.

I still cannot, for the life of me, understand how Vane got to Charlestown (since they said his ship was still in bay at Nassau). Did he and his entire crew ride on a dingy boat with an "18th century motored propeller" and completely bypass Flint's man of war?! Waving as they passed... lol Glad you resumed watching this show! Best show of the century... imo

I assume they could've stolen a smaller ship, like a sloop, that is fast and can quickly go up the coast lines whereas a big warship would run aground if not in deep water. Vane's crew could've even used longboats if they were sticking to shallow waters. Would've been hard in longboats but they're the type of dudes who could do it.
