The story of how Flint got his "nickname" is amazing. Well. every dialague on this show is amazing. That what make it stand out of the rest.

100 % agree. One of the most elegant well told explanations for a dual identity. Well written and poignant and so well told by the actor.

Lord Ashe and Miranda are married irl. They've both got pretty strong South African accents too so props to them.

One thing to note on Thomas and his father's relationship, is that the situation became very political. England was at war, powerful factions vying to attack the Hamilton family. And here was Thomas proposing what was considered a treasonous policy. So given the political situation, the relationship between James and Thomas became the weapon to tear down the whole scheme. The relationship itself could have been kept secret perhaps for a long long time if not for the suicidal political situation. so you do have to consider the political implications of Thomas's incarceration at Bethlem. It is likely that Alfred was indeed a ruthless political man first, a father second.

Louise Barnes’ performance in this episode is incredible. If you rewatch the scene knowing what she does you see how tormented she is by every word she hears. She’s a step ahead of James and knows that there’s finally something like hope happening in his mind. And she also knows they are absolutely doomed.

They went to Charlestown as James Mcgraw and Miranda Hamilton but civilization could only see them as Captain Flint and the witch.

Actually, the pausing had me stopping and analyzing that shaky suicidal path he's accepted. Peter would've backstabbed him again. Damn the tension, lighting, sound all over that scene was perfect.

RIP Miranda. That LA trigger happy officer working for Ashe certainly appears like a bit of a lunatic but you have to remember that he already told the audience that he will “shoot you where you stand if you get closer to the governor than you just did”. He is the security detail for a royal governor and all he knew about Flint was that he was the most dangerous pirate in the Caribbean. Is it over the top yes, but he was standing outside and he probably heard Miranda saying she wanted to hang Ashe herself and just burst in and shot her before she could attack him. Impressive to me that you were so easily able to predict vane helping Flint because of Billy’s words. Great insight into the characters. Great reaction.

This show and this episode in particular is fantastic at intertwining each plot. Every character gets their moment of screen time to establish their goals and reasons. The scenes with James and Miranda are so quiet and intense that you completely forget Vane is nearby despite being explicitly reminded of it in the scene where Dooley and Mr. Scott are watching the water. You end up thinking Vane's attack is the catalyst to ruin their plans but it isn't. It turns out Miranda is unable to get past Ashe's betrayal and oversteps. Her fate is not only foreshadowed when the governor's man aims his pistol at her earlier but in fact two episodes prior in episode 7 when Mr. Guthrie is trying to warn Miranda that Charlestown is not as civilized as she might expect it to be. They are interrupted by Abigail's arrival so Miranda never takes that warning to heart.

I never got into the pirate genre, but _Black Sails_ is so damn good. I wish more people would watch it and realize how good it really is. Its lack of following is probably due to it being released at the height of Game of Thrones, but it turned out to be a better overall series than GoT, with an even better ending. P.S. Have you seen Game of Thrones?

Miranda!!! 😭😭😭 Her loss is devastating. I absolutely agree with you on the Flint side and the McGraw side of James struggling against one another. But with Miranda's murder, the Flint side prevails. I really love how the show subverts expectations. When I first saw 208, I figured Flint and Peter would be on the verge of making a pact and then Vane would show up and ruin it. Instead, Peter is the shitbird and it's Vane to the rescue. Brilliant. Someone did a video of KZread reactors responses to Miranda's death. It's sad to relieve it but everyone's response is total shock. kzread.info/dash/bejne/p5uHxLKnkdK5orA.htmlsi=MyQNSw1eUz0eL4in

Jack and Anne got separated for just a bit, but they are never going in seperate journeys. They belong together and nothing will ever separate them. Jack would never completely choose anyone over Anne and she would never choose anyone over him
