Psalm 23:3-4 - He gives me new strength. He leads me on paths that are right for the good of His name. Even if I walk through a very dark valley, I will not be afraid, because You are with me. Your rod and Your shepherd’s staff comfort me.

My friend and I met up for the first time in Shinjuku. This has been my Internet best friend since 2018, so it was amazing to finally meet her in person. In this video, we visited a 2D café, had Korean barbecue, visited a K-pop merchandise store, and took home some delicious macaroons all while walking the streets of Shin Okubo of Shinjuku, Tokyo. But in this video, I talked about what it means to travel abroad as a black woman. There’s been a lot of discourse lately about this discussion, so I would love to know what you guys think. Let me know what you guys think in the comments down below and I would love to get a discussion going about this.

This is so real. Once I'm done with my masters im planning on moving abroad for a while. I always encourage Black people to experience the world beyond their home country because often times i've heard folks say they feel like they won't be able to adapt or live like they want in other countries but in my experience abroad I've had nothing but positive experiences (even better than my life in my home country lowkey) so you are speaking facts in this vid girly!

"everyone is going to have unique experiences" thank you!!! I had the time of my life when I went to Beijing, China back in 2012 and plan on visiting more east asian, south asian, and other countries as well. I take everything with a grain of salt, but you can't stop living your life because you never know the tribe you'll find outside of your homeland.
Spoke nothing but facts👏🏽 also jyp catching a stray 😂😂 I can’t
I love your perspective and I love seeing you live your best life! Traveling is not easy regardless, and adding all the things you mentioned on top of it, it can seem like an impossible challenge but you are out here being an example and encouraging others too and I really admire that. can't wait to see more of your adventures!
the attack on titan intro😂😂 But facts said throughout this video!!

Thanks for noticing!! I appreciate the support
Thank you for saying all of this! I’m considering studying abroad in either Japan or South Korea, and I am somewhat hesitant because I’m scared of feeling alone because of my race. This has made me feel excited and hopeful to go abroad
I think people really need to LISTEN to Tiwa’s message in this video, her perspective is golden.❤
I’ve never been outside the US but this was very encouraging 💪🏽
this helped me so much, i want to start travelling but i rarely ever hear about people who arent white talk about going abroad. i plan on travelling solo all summer and this helped
I didn’t know that there was a thing, discouraging blk ppl not to travel. I’ve been to Canada England Hawaii Bahamas Barbados the list goes on. Everywhere I’ve visited I enjoyed myself and if there were racism I didn’t see or feel it. I agree with you, blk ppl should venture out into the world to learn about other cultures and enjoy gods beautiful creation…awesome message👌🏽👏🏽
I'd double thumbs up this video if I could Nothing but facts!! I've been watching you since your Korea videos and I love that you are encouraging other black people to travel :)
Tiwa, thank you so much for this video. As someone who has had the privilege to travel internationally (and to East Asia), you said it all and then some. I enjoy your videos and adventures so much, and admire you for taking those leaps. Looking forward to more videos! ❤
Thank you for sharing! I’ve definitely experienced a lot traveling to the few countries I’ve been but I’ve also had greatttttt experiences. I love thé content where black women share places they’ve been to that they felt safe. I think it’s important to see more black women travelling the world! Thanks for sharing!!!
Well this was reassuring and inspiring. Thanks for sharing Tiwa :)
Love this all …you speak facts ❤
I am a bw and in hs, I told a fellow black girl classmate the same thing you said when I talked about wanting to visit Japan for the 1st time. I think what I said resonated with her because she was hella scared at the thought of going despite her really loving Japanese culture. Fast forward a year later, she went to Japan and came back and was sooo happy she went. I remember her saying "OMG Japanese people are so kind and they were suuuper nice to me! Nobody was racist to me." So that was cool! I still have yet to go since I need to finish my studies first.
I love this and I can definitely relate this is exactly what I have been trying to do too
Getting my passport soon and wanted to travel to Japan with my brother, so I'm trying to do all my research now especially about a tour guide/translator.
I feel this so much! It's crazy (while understandable) how much black people will discourage others from traveling. I have to shoutout my mom here bc I would easily be scared to travel if it wasn't for her traveling to many countries and sometimes taking her with me. I see so many posts about how we (black people) shouldn't go to Italy and even though I've already been there and was fine, these posts got me spooked. I'm still going to go back there regardless. If I have a racist encounter, while that will suck, it's unfortunately part of being black. Truthfully, it feels a bit "better" when it happens in a foreign country rather than when it happens in my home country (America).
I been traveling since I was 3 years old last place I have travel to last year was Hawaii it was beautiful but very expensive still good experience. I think Bonaire and Guatemala were my favorite place travel to because the food and culture there.
I love the fact you added God in this discussion
I think you should reword your heading to, why black people should consider travelling. More people need to comment on this. Love you and your vlogs👍🏾
Shout out to all the homies in Thailand and the Philippines. 🫡

There is a large group of African Americans who moved and still moving to Johannesburg, South Africa. They look like they are living their best life over there.
Younger generations are different 😅it's wild but to be fair the general disrespect towards how and why older generations are/we're scared isn't without the forced silence of the experiences of those older generations and what they went through and why their hesitation is so vapid and became so generational. Imagine if they had TikTok between 1930-1970 in the black community....wildly different sentiments if their trials and tribulations were better recorded The ignorance isn't cute but I will say the opportunities from it are refreshing. It seems sometimes being blind gives more room for opportunities rather than fixing a prescription to confirm dangers towards ones sense of survival *cue Dave Chappelle blind kkk skit* 😅 go off girl I suppose our ancestors (were forcefully) withheld to survive and procreate so you (we,)had the freedoms to thrive and travel without concern or fear of retribution as it once was for them🥹🤌🏾💐
Your intro 😍🫶🏾
btw, offtopic but, how's you AoT journey going, from your IG stories? Also facts, please also know that there is very much racism against black people EVEN IN AFRICAN COUNTRIES!!! I'm born and raised in Kenya, an East African predominantly black country, but I can detail the amount of racism I've experienced from both black and non-black people smh. Moral of the story: as she says, when you can BOOK THAT TRIP BLACK CHILD!!!

Lots of smiles and good manners but they don’t like foreigners in Japan, not even from other Asian countries. Visiting is one thing because you bring business but living in Japan is another story. I was living in Japan. I have many stories about racism. Try to sit on the metro and look the empty seats beside you with a full train “gaijin seats”. Or the continuing staring with some people whispering to your ears “go back home” in Japanese. I love Japan but whoever says Japan is not a racist country they lie or they never lived there. This is my experience.
