As a minority (who doesn’t really deal with police, I’m Asian) I normally show my ID to avoid confrontation, but he made a really good point about how you shouldn’t give them the power to demand and we comply, otherwise they’d keep doing it bc we keep complying. If they were really concerned, they could have went to the Management of the Building to ask them about the guy and either let them deal with it or Management would/could have told them who he is. The son deserved to get arrested, but the police FORGOT to arrest the mother for the misuse of a 911 call and lying to the police by covering up her son's assault. She committed Class A misdemeanor according to the Tennessee law where this incident took place.

I'm on both sides of the fence here. Just because he had on knee pads, head lamp, and a plastic company looking badge thing doesn't mean he was working. If you have a concern watch from a distance and call the cops. Don't put yourself in a dangerous situation and confront someone like that. That's why big boy was on the ground

The son was definitely crying like a big baby when the cops slapped the cuffs on lmao

For all my black/brown/Hispanic people out there in situations like this please don’t try to argue back just call the cops. I’ve seen too many videos like this gone horribly wrong.

The thing is when you feel like someone is committing a crime, you don't attack or get to close to them. In this case they were racially profiling him. No citizens has the right to ask for someone else's ID. Both Karen and Kevin will learn to mind their own business going forward

I'm so proud of this guy for standing up for himself in such a way that was not in an escalating way and really took control of the situation. It's so easy for us as humans to panic and be really defensive when in a confrontation but he really was thinking quickly in this situation. Hopefully he gets good recognition at his job. As for the mom and son, I pray that God removes the hate from their hearts. Hopefully the son will learn a lesson from his arrest.

I don’t think it was hate, a guys looking at every car in the lot, which can be consider as suspicious, the lot probably could have had cars broken into before and they just wanted to make sure this guy wasn’t doing the samething, they did escalate the situation tho and assaulted him which now puts them in the wrong, should have just waited for police and when police verified him just apologize and move on with their days

Qualifier, I'm black and this video sickens me. To think that you shouldn't be able to identify suspicious people in your building is insane. I don't condone the way they reacted after the initial contact like hitting the phone and trying to intimidate him, but we should continue normalizing the idea of calling the cops on suspicious people. The aim should continue to be on training cops to be more respectable not on shaming citizens for trying to protect their property and their neighbors property. Is this really the world you want to live in like Seth Rogen describes "I get robbed all the time, detail with it"?

I think he should be fired and if it was my Company I would definitely do so, any customers at their own residency have a right to know what you're doing on their property. If he doesn't want to show ID he should leave the property immediately and get his work to call the owners to let them know what they doing on their property

I still personally side with his reasonings as to not show his ID, but that doesn’t invalidate anything you said. He has no obligation to show them his ID, They however do not have the right to put their hands on him, even if he records them.

Mans didn't want to be recorded cause he knew they were in the wrong. Now he's famous.

He’s not the first person they’ve done this too. I do hope he goes all the way with the assault charges because this behavior is inexcusable. He’s 19 and build like that. Don’t let his get any bigger and continue to get away acting like his mother. If she was that concerned about what he was doing in “her building” she would’ve went to her apartment and called the police. But they felt comfortable enough to confront him. She needs to wake up and get of her high horse. She’s gonna get her son or herself seriously injured acting like that.

If you genuinely think this person is doing something nefarious, watch from a distance to get confirmation, then call the police.
