Exactly so, and for someone trying to make eggs breakfast in bed isn't just a privlege, it's vital!

I'm glad you posted this! This is a very good sign. Inky *needs* that food and very badly. Insects are a really good source of proteins, fats, and minerals, all of which are vital to the formation of eggs - her body will tear them apart into building blocks and send them to the egg factory! The less energy Inky has to spend foraging, the more she can devote to ovigenesis and eventual egg-laying. So even if he's an early morning pest, Philbert is doing his job and that raises the odds of a successful family much higher. 🙂

Yes, I love how gently he hands over the food to her. I think I’ve noticed male Cardinals do this sometimes, too, when courtship feeding a female. Very cute! 🥰🐦❤️

The blue Jay was on my grills today. Handsome. We spoke. He didn’t take flight

How cute! I love how crisp and defined the nest cup is, for an animal with no hands that is a work of art. I also can't believe these birds only raise chicks in the nest cavity and don't make it a year round home. Looks so much more comfortable than hiding in a tree during a -30f night!

Lesley the bird nerd , I have the fledglings ! the Blue Jays Bebe & Febe introduced three beautiful healthy fledglings to my door deck both male and female I'm so proud of them, what great parents they are, yes I'm crushing up the peanuts and they're starting to feed themselves it's quite cute and funny I so enjoy their entertainment it's very brief they come and go quickly three times a day and now I have little competition at the pile of peanuts crushed whole shell peanuts the starlings and the large pretty crackles. I hear that chickadees in the distance I would love to have them come this fall with the black oil seeds. Only I need to keep the pigeons away from the feeder pile

Lesley ---thats love...we are on Long Island visiting with my son in law and daughter and grandkids...we are having fun but call everyday to make sure my buddy has taken care of feeding and water for my birds and chipmunks...have a wonderful week

I often wonder how and when the boy bird chooses to feed himself in the midst of feeding the lady bird. If there’s a particularly big and juicy caterpillar does he gobble it up and not tell her about it…?🤔

Haha I wonder. It seems like he brings her nice and plump caterpillars. With that though, I remember a few years back being with the Blue Jays giving them peanuts in the shell. One of the male jays I named Hermoso collected a very nice quality peanut for himself and gave a beat up broken one to his mate Fiona. It was funny to watch.

This particular video was from just the other day. In some years chickadees nest twice, this occurs when insects are very plentiful. That certainly is the case this year.

Many birds are still nesting. Some have 2 or 3 broods in a season. In years when the insects are really plentiful, like it has been for my area chickadees will have a second brood, right after the first one they started in May. This second clutch leads them into August

Aww that's awesome, and thank you very much. :) Currently I don't have a chickadee mug :( Sorry about that.

Question, do you clean out the nest box each year or leave the material? I left my material, thinking that nature doesn't have a big hand to remove it. I had a chickadee visit my box, probably the same pair as last year, they looked around and never came back.

Once the nesting is done I clean out the nest box. It's recommended to do that because nests usually harbor fleas and other parasites, which can remain and infest young birds that hatch the following year.

You're welcome :) The camera I use for inside the nest box is the BLINK Outdoor Security camera. They are pretty good but I'm looking for something better for next year's nesting season, which I will definitely share about when the time comes around :)

Or something like that. I also want to share with you a view of my box. I'd love to be able to make you a box. It's designed to show a more side view. It provides incredible views. Let me know if you're interested! Free of course, or I can show you the design and you could build it. The only issue is that I'm in the U.S. and I'm not sure how international shipping works.
