    I absolutely love and enjoy your videos, Thank You! I do have a question- (I've been using Black Diamond for years and love it!) The question is- i setup a 150 gallon tank and plan on having 6-8 geophagus Tapajos... in your opinion, is the Slag too sharp and large as apposed to regular sand? Being earth eaters, I don't want to damage the geos... Thanks, Bud

    I think this is exactly what I'm going to use as a substrate for my 125g African chiclid tank that I'm going to put together. I used pool filter sand in my 75g African chiclid tank and I really like it. I just wished it was black. Thanks for the video.

    I have a 75g with pool sand as well. And just got a 125g. Lol and was wondering if you got the black diamond sand and if so how are the african cichlids doing? He mentioned that it was a little abrasive? I know my african cichlids spit it out and scrape against the substrate.

    I have it in my 10 gallon and it's great. I'm just setting up a 20 and cleaned the sand and filled the tank and it's dirty.😢 Did I not clean it enough? I cleaned it just as much as I did the 10. If I didn't will it settle? I would really hate to have to drain it because I have to use bottled water. My tap water has two PPM of ammonia.

  • @TrafishAquatics

    @TrafishAquatics

    3 жыл бұрын

    I don't have a video on it but maintaining sand isn't that difficult, you can't vacuum it the same was as gravel so any debris you have to swirl the syphon over it to lift it and if you don't have fish or snails that will sift through the sand you will on occasion have to disturb the sand a little to avoid any toxic gas pocket buildup

  • @TrafishAquatics

    @TrafishAquatics

    Жыл бұрын

    Read this in a forum, hope it helps: Most abrasive is measured with mesh size. During production, it gets shaken through various screens. These screens might have as little as 20 holes per square inch, or as many as 100. This means that 40/70 glass fits through the 40-70 holes per square inch screens. 20/40 glass is coarser than 40/70, and 60/100 glass is finer. A common misconception is that the coarser glass will help you get through a job faster. It is true that 20/40 glass is slightly more aggressive than 40/70. However, because it's so coarse, you're only getting half as many particles of glass in the same size bag. You'll end up using twice as many bags to get the job done, which is not only expensive, but inefficient! It's a much better idea to increase abrasive density if you want to complete the job faster. So based off this a finer media is more abbrasive due to surface area being higher.

    @@TrafishAquatics Thank you very much for that info! I need the smoothest media possible, but don't want the filter to suck media into my two canister filter's impellers because it's too fine. Unfortunately, I don't know what to get because I've always just run aquarium stones in the past. I'm putting together the biggest and last tank of my life. It's a 225 gallon and so far I'm running 4 Silver Dollars, 8 Corydoras, 20 Cardinal Tetras and 10 Neon Tetras, with the goal of a 100% peaceful tank once I move them from my 32 gallon and add more fish. That's why I will be painting the back of the tank black and want black substrate.

    Yeah my Black Diamond Sand isn't black mine came out brown after I washed it in only water lmao I'm not sure what went wrong but I'm let others know with this same message on other videos about this sand.

    you sure it's safe to dump the dirty water into your drainage like that? wouldn't it be better to wash it outside with a hose so you don't get sand in your drains?

    Just wondering if you think it's safe to wash that in the bath?

    No its not! Use a garden hose outside. It can cause drain problems and if you have a septic tank it's not good for that either

    It's possible, the extra depth front to back may require more than the normal 12" tanks

    So I rinsed out my sand in a bucket and then added it to a tank that had water ? It’s cloudy ass shit

    Give it a day or 2 to clear, even perfectly clean sand will do that because of the smaller sand particles

    i might be a little late to the party as well but i immediately saw a pretty big problem, in my humble opinion, with the part where you advise folks to use the bathroom to rinse sand and i dont mean to be a smart a$$ or tell anyone im better than them because i like your video and it was helpful but please dont rinse this stuff inside because this sand or any fine grit substances can accumulate with hair and grease already present inside your plumbing and cause some MAJOR PROBLEMS. yawl know my sworn nemesis major problems right ? hes a real douche and i mean, its not impossible that he can even clog up pipes inside or behind walls and or floors indoors and having to dig up or bust down patios and lawns also. im sure mister stevens just wasnt aware of it so my only agenda is to help and i hate outside too my brother ! we have really humid summers....blasted southern humidity ! otherwise, GREAT vid bro and thanks for helping me decide to use this stuff.
