For as long as Crawford has been on this platform, I'm still surprised that more people haven't become subscribers. His content has always been great and since his move to the Rockies his production value is top notch.
Another glorious half hour, your saga readings are the best!

Hahaha, excellent story. I particularly like the "Your father was a fish" insult.
The original battle rap contests! Skald vs. Skald
“...just about fell into that township down there!!!”🤣🙌🏻🙏🤩 That was just so dang drangiliga✨
Fascinating story, but damn that was depressing.
Living in Boulder made me realize the virtue of practicality. Some of the strangest ideas I have encountered were alive and well in that odd place.
ha ha ha the dogs as people thing. And as...scandalous?...as these insults are, it is still really interesting to hear and I'm glad you didn't shy away from discussing them. I really haven't thought much about medieval suits, let alone slander suits, so the video is intriguing.
Ok, I started laughing hard at the very beginning, I suddenly had the image in my head of the not so amazing Icelander having a saga about his habits of not getting much done, his consumption of food and a long, profound description of how far he got over the years while not bothering to bathe. Ivar the paint sniffer or something along those lines.... Ok, I'm sorry, I will shut up now, but I can't stop laughing!
That remark about the color blue associated with homosexuality is interesting: In Russian, a common adjective for a man being homosexual is голубой - meaning "light blue".
Can’t get enough of these
Thank you for all your Norse knowledge
Wooo new video!
Man, your channel is fantastic! Thanks Doc
This was fantastic!
I always enjoy your videos. Thank you.
This was a great read! I finished your Havamal book, I'm half-way done reading your translation of the Poetic Edda, and I have your translation of the Saga of the Volsungs next in line.
You vids are always going to earn a like and share from me 😊 great work
Love the increasing elaborate insults. Especially the dog at the table.
That is a great saga story, loved it
5:48 LMFAO 🤣
Always good to hear Cnut get a mention. I live half a mile from the site of his decisive victory against Edmund Ironside in 1016. 4 years later Cnut returned and had a church built on the hill to honour the fallen. The first priest was Stigand, who later crowned Harold Godwinson and features on the Bayeaux Tapestry. In the 1950s a Danish prince, a descendant of Cnut, visited and to this day a Danish flag and model of a longship hangs inside the church. In 2016 we had a ceremony at the church to mark the battle's 1000th anniversary.
Could you please do a video about the viking Guthrum who defended King Alfred and was later converted and became Athelstan
Thank you.
Excellent video! (But can you put fewer cards on the end so your face isn't hidden? I love the bit where you tip your hat at the end :D )
"oh crap im going to fall" said with a smile and a laugh, despite the several hundred foot fall being what hed fall down. thats drengerliga if ive ever seen it
I’d be interested in learning more about the Icelandic Law books, during this era and the break down of how an Althing was conducted.
Nice and listen to the humor video.
And I thought Romeo and Juliet was depressing
Eye candy!!
Great story! I had not heard it before. Grettir's saga is otherwise my favorite.
Knee deep in a cow...yep that made me laugh, been there done that
This is a fav Icelandic saga of mine.
Interesting how the poem has both the traditional type of alliteration and the continental end rhyme too. I wonder where this end rhyme tradition comes from.
Would you be able to provide a translation of "unbound" into Old Norse? Im wanting to incorporate it into a tattoo idea i have.
Lol, those people in Boulder!
Who can dislike this? I dont understan...
On the kings clothes fitting: Isn't Olaf Haraldsson described as being rather short but plenty... stout?
Love your saga stories but you audio is always too quiet. I have to max out my volume to hear you. Please turn it up in your editing programe so us hard of hearing Dreanger and understand you ;)

@@Mr.Patrick_Hung I usually listen on my phone through my earbuds while I drive. The post amplifier on my phone just isn't going to do the job. It would go along way to boost the audio in the editing program so folks like me can hear what is being said. Also I have some hearing damage that makes it hard to hear things.
Yeah, I gotta say it again. Love what you're doing - no Ivory tower yet you are still meeting the sky and spreading knowledge from on high. No walls, No ceilings - my kind of tower. All the 'scumbag douchebag co-workers' and 'like goddamn Bolder' "a quick murder errand" just make it better IMO. At least *sometimes* this sort of tone is great for bringing the knowledge back down to earth. Wait "blue" hat? Don't we have problems with the precision of color words in old Norse? In my undergraduate studies I spent a long time looking at circumpolar bear cults and a sweet of words around this subject that I thought were very interesting. Unfortunately my linguistics professor is a specialist in Peru and Keepu (or however those knot things are called) so I got very little feedback about the actual particulars of my work. Pretty much just stalled out dreading applying to grad school but totally obsessed with my interests. I like transitions. I study the entire area - but one of my main passions is the Mesolithic transition in Northern Eurasia. I'm way deep into the archaeology and art history of it - trying to propose that there cold be a linguistic layer too. Love you're stuff - wish the world was saner and our institutions could interface somehow, I'd love to interface with you AND see you make the money you deserve. Alas, the world isn't at it's sanest at the moment.

Also, for gods sake move the camera and yourself a foot or two more form the ledge! Sure the views are great, but your way too cool to go down in a goddamn selfie shot.
"Peak specimens" . . . . super heroes

Would it have made sense to people in those times that a Norwegian king might take Icelandic guards because they were outsiders rather than rivals, similar to the Varangian guard? I mean not as often or as easily as some of the sagas make it out to be, but something that at least was plausible?
Hi I'm Bjorn
You gave me a chuckle when trying to euphemize what was going on in that man-on-man carving, well done. Also, could the blue hat that was mentioned have something to do with seiðr and the negative/unmanly connotations thereof? I seem to remember you mentioning something about that art maybe being associated with specific garb, shall we say.
14:47 Is this where the word for "Boy" comes from in modern Danish? If so, that's an odd etymology for a male child. Or is it coincidental?
So @31:01 about that whole election thing ...
bjorn = the drengerest of drengrs. in an alternative version of this story, in the end bjorn makes his assailants laugh so hard over his poetry that they all die from suffocation
Hey
Nice stuff, but the sound of the voice is too low overall and compared to other ambient sounds
Re filming spots: Next time leave yourself SIX feet! It's too soon to lose ya'. Re dogs: Easy enough to get away from California. Much harder to get away from Californians! ...grmbl grmbl spread like the plague gorrammit grmbl grmbl...

@Hoosier Pagan Perhaps he has it turned up to max...just as 10 other people have liked his comment it suggests that there is a problem with the sound.
Bro, I absolutely love your channel but the volume is always so low. I have my volume maxed on my computer and cannot hear half of this video. Then when your video is over the next one that queues up tears my eardrums.
Jackson your audio is very low in a lot of your videos so sometimes with sound in the background it can be hard to hear you
