Also a) seeing her ignore the malt paste was Heartbreaking! 💔 b) yes, you're risking their lives, but like you say, not for nothing and I'm glad you can acknowledge that, because you are doing an amazing thing for rats as a whole, and c) I'm sending you a big hug, you looked like you needed one (especially at the end!) 💜💜

So happy to see Twizzle is ok and is getting back to her old self. I have been watching for an update on your girls and been sending positive vibes your way . Thanks again for putting this out there, it’s really put things in perspective. My girl Kate is on day 21 of pregnancy and I had to pause your video and go check on her in her birthing cage as I haven’t checked in her in hours. I’m keeping my distance and only going around feeding times. She is spotting and she looks to be making a small nest. Took a little almond flake and came out for kisses so seems ok. I know what to look out for and I wouldn’t be long taking off to a vet, even if that’s an emergency vet, which it would be here today and tmow as tmow is a holiday. The only thing that is keeping me from pacing the floors is to watch your breeding videos make sure I get every detail. My two rats I put together were not only my favourite in terms of temperament but by their type, ears, body and everything else you said needs to be taken in account when breeding. I can’t wait to have cute babies that I will most likely keep but I wanna better rats health and overall status as pets. I would rather someone come get a rat from me than a pet store where I can give them go info (refer to your guides to form their owns options, as I did) also I would want ppl to research rats bc it’s not like the UK here for rats. We only have pet store rats which are great and I have 3 that I love dearly but the pet store does not offer a suitable sized cage or healthy food. I feel this little rat and all these rats have came into my life for a reason (sounds nuts but I’m recovering from a Traumatic Brain Injury for the past 15 mths) and I lost myself and the previous person I was) anyway they have enriched my and my kids life so much, I just wanna do right by them. I wanna give them a wonderful life with lots of rat friends and hopefully show ppl how wonderful they really are. ❤️

Isamu Rat Care 🙂 thank you I hope so too. I won’t breed much as I wouldn’t want to just be popping out kittens all the time bc I wouldn’t want to contribute to unwanted animals that end up left at a shelter. (Not judging, sometimes that’s best for everyone involved and the rats) I just want to produce a small number of lovely, healthy rats for ppl to enjoy. They are quite the big deal with my daughters friends and class mates as they made some Skype appearances over their online class time. I really do appreciate your comment and I feel a lot better knowing you are supportive. I felt the need to explain to you my reasons as you are kinda a big deal to me and you are the only person I’ve come across that seems to love rats the way I do. Which you totally helped with. I wouldn’t have this wonderful bond with my rats and they wouldn’t be living so large if it wasn’t for what you do and put out there. Kate is on day 22, I feed her this morning, no babies but she is building a bigger nest. I don’t want to bother her but I don’t wanna leave her until dusk tonight until feeding time. It’s not easy for me to see what she is doing bc it’s all covered in card. I have to life a flap to see in. Been trying to get a wed cam but no luck. If I do breed again(see how this goes) I’ll definitely get a web came before hand. Hope you, your girls and their babies are well. Looking forward to watching them grown ❤️

Hey me again! Just wanted to let you know Miss Kate birthed 13 plump babies on Monday mid day. Mom and babies are doing well. I watched a video today that was a little concerning to me. It was a video just about a doe having babies and followed their growth. The mom rat died two mths after giving birth to her big litter of kittens from UTI. Is that something that can happen 2 mths later? I haven’t heard of this before, not sure if anyone else has.

Congratulations, I hope mum and babies continue to do well. Rat’s can get a nasty urinary tract infection at any point. I suspect this had gone to the mum in questions kidneys. They aren’t any more likely in those lactating s as such but are probably more common in does than bucks. So she was unlucky in the timing rather than it being linked with birthing and raising kittens

Isamu Rat Care thank so much. Everything seems to going well. I’ve seen milk bands but I have noticed that no all her nipples are being used. So I worry that they are getting full tummies. I took them out for a little look yesterday but they seem so breakable. I should have a better look today that they are 3 days old. Not too worried about sexing at this point, just wanna make sure they being well fed. It was so sad to me that that happened to the poor momma rat. Is there anything that I should look out for? I’ll have a google search and see. Hope all mommas and babies are well your way too. I’m sure sweet twizzle is doing much better. ❤️

So sorry for your loss of a litter, and such a stressful experience to go through for all concerned. Bittersweet with you saving Twizzles life. She's a born survivor obviously. 😉 Being spayed is it likely that she will live with the boys once she has fully recovered, or is she staying with the girls and Bercow?

This came at just the right time. I had a small litter born this week and a bigger one last night, and I'll have a third in about a week. It's good to know what to watch for when you're just getting into this. ** The litters were the first for these girls and we had 7 and 11.

Sadly breeding is 10% planning, 30% adapting to those plans not working out and 60% waiting and hoping. All of us would like a good proof way of telling a mating has occurred (beyond watching it), and been successful (roll on rat pregnancy tests). Mostly though even as an experienced breeder I am not 100% sure some rat’s are pregnant right up to the end (some are blindingly obvious)
