    Blame the last round of kittens and a very hectic work schedule. For a good while the rat room was mostly cages and kittens and a right mess so not the best space to fill in

    Poultry based protein could possibly lead to increase in mammary tumors due to growth hormones given to poultry. Thanks for the very informative videos!

    Incessant scratching. Ivermectin Spot on doesn’t seem to work, ordered Xeno spot on. Apart from a shave I don’t know what else to do. Vet suggested the Xeno

    :40 to :43 has a rat who had the zoomies and jumped, expecting to grab the door of the cage but did an epic fail jump. My rats do that sometimes when we open the door haha.

    Was there something particular about the poultry protein that you mentioned? Low quality? Or should one avoid feeding chicken for example?

  • @IsamuRatCare

    @IsamuRatCare

    3 жыл бұрын

    It’s low quality poultry protein I would tend to avoid, things that refer to poultry meal or similar as that’s effectively an unknown type of poultry (eg chicken, Turkey etc) and very low grade by product. I’ll use chicken natural dog kibbles for instance but they name the meat and are higher quality.

    Do you have any experience of boys with an inguinal hernia? I have a 7 month old boy getting one closed over and neutered in a couple of weeks. He’s quite a big solid lad so I’m sure he will be fine but any info would be appreciated.

    Not personally but whilst it’s not common I know of a few rats that have had it done, it tends to go smoothly with a vet that knows what they are doing. Just make sure they are using gas anaesthetic as a starting point and treat as a normal op

    Isamu Rat Care yes thankfully this one uses gas, the original vet who wasn’t confident uses ketamine. This is a very experienced rat vet but she has never actually done a hernia but seems very confident all will go well.

    Now that most (or all) of your does are from breeders or that you've bred yourself, do you still need to spay them often and are your vet bills still more than bucks? loved the video btw I learned tons! (:

    I rarely end up spaying. Out of 10 does at the moment I have one spayed, Twizzel (and that was due to her emergency caesarean). I tend to have at most 1-2 at a time spayed but not many at all

    @@IsamuRatCare thank you for replying! 💗 I figured spaying would be less necessary, it’s a huge reason why I’m getting my next girls from breeders- rescues can get so expensive over time due to bad genetics.

    Hi, love your videos. Recently got two baby girls. I’ve no intention to ever breed, would you recommend preventative spaying?

  • @fiveratsinatrenchcoat4408

    I got my two rescue girls spayed, I had no idea about their genetics so I thought it best. They were spayed at 4 months and they both woke up but a couple of hours after my girl Martha really sadly died, not sure why as she didn’t bleed and she woke up from the anesthetic so really not sure, my other girl, rani, is now happy healthy and completely lump free and managed to keep her really slim still, I probably would spay again but loosing Martha was really aweful. It’s unusual though and for all we know she would have died anyway and it was a really strange coincidence. Annoyingly no easy answer

    It depends on there background. If they are rescues or from poorly bred lines and your vet is experienced at rat spays I’d consider it around the 5-6 month mark

    For future reference, pyometra is pronounced pyo-meet-ra. Only know that from my work experience at the vets- it’s very common in entire older bitches. A very good reason to get your dogs spayed!!
