    I don't think it was that. He was just confused because he's not very bright. When the judge hits the gavel and everyone gets up and leaves, Bird is left there looking around, thinking, "WTF just happened? Jesus? Come back to Earth? What?" He's just a dumbass soldier.

    Bird was expecting his lawyer to make something happen here. But then the gavel slams, the judge walks off, his lawyer walks off, and all that's left is the truth of what the judge said - life no parole. This scene left Bird holding the bag big time. Awesome.

But still, he probably would've been mad about it even if they gave him a quick death. What does he expect? He robs and even kills people himself, and when they turn around and kill someone close to him he wanna act like a bitch and lie to put a man in prison for life, that's bullshit.

    Some food for thought, this takes place around 2002 and Bird would've been about 30. In The Wire's universe, there's a solid chance that Bird, aged 50, is still doing time in Baltimore to this day

    The interesting thing about all of this is that Omar probably knew that it was Bey and not Bird that killed Gant but it didn't matter as long as Bird went down. I thought it was genius that Omar practically used the police own intelligence not only to track Avon and his crew but by agreeing to be a witness gain immunity in killing Avon's crew (i.e. Stinkum) and shooting Avon and Bey while he was serving as a 'witness'. He was a mad genius who used the game to his advantage.

    The hilarious thing about the Judge's question, even if it is meant sarcastically, is that it is a fact question. Additionally the Judge stated on the record that it would be grounds for changing the verdict. If Levy really wanted to push his luck he could claim that this was actually a grounds to postpone sentencing to assemble another jury to answer it or even get the appeal he was wanting to settle that fact.

  • @harryp7346

    @harryp7346

    10 ай бұрын

    I studied law years ago in the UK, but am far from an expert (maybe slightly more knowledgeable than average), and am probably particularly ignorant of US law. So, not sure how accurate my comment will be. Firstly, you mention the "verdict", the judge's comments were actually about sentencing. And his comments were vaguely worded, with no indication of what the sentence would be if Bird was the second-coming. Presumably, though, as such comments weren't part of official sentencing, they wouldn't be legally binding. Likewise, presumably there would be an argument to say they were clearly said tongue-in-cheek, and couldn't reasonably be considered to be taken seriously. And, even if they could be taken seriously, given the aforementioned vagueness of the wording, presumably he could still give a life/no parole sentence. As it is, even if Levy did try and delay sentencing, as the verdict was still guilty of first degree murder, it's not like Bird would get bail. Delaying sentencing would presumably be of no benefit to Bird, therefore - he will still be held in jail until sentencing, and then will spend life in jail after sentencing, so exactly when the sentencing occurs is irrelevant.
