Bird Hunting - Shooting Pheasants | TA Outdoors

Спорт

Hunting and Shooting with Shotguns and Air Rifles is becoming increasingly popular in the UK. This episode focuses on shooting Pheasants. This driven Pheasant shoot was filmed in Hampshire. An informal shoot, with plenty of tips and shooting action. See the shoot from both the beaters and shooters point of view. We hope you enjoy the first of our shooting videos! Thank you to all who have subscribed to Totally Awesome Outdoors. It is great to see the grow and we are always grateful for your feedback. There are more shooting videos to come! - Graeme & Mike

    I'm 15, and had a go at game shooting with a multi millionair for free! Wasn't the best shot but I did alright for my first time, so much more challenging than clay pigeons. Now I've got a job beating on the weekends. I find it mad how the shoots work, and the effort required for a bag of 400 or so a day.

    Barrel selection is mainly due to what choke tube you have in and where! If you have a modified in the top barrel and a full in the bottom then you would want to shoot top barrel first as the full choke will help with the missed shot for the follow up longer range shot! Nice video though great job guys 👍🏻

Not to mention that I like the way you guys dress for the hunt. It's a combination of looking nice while still blending in. I've never felt the need to dress up like I was back in the military. Would love to know where you guys buy your clothing for the hunt.

    Finding good areas or groups in UK is fairly difficult for beginners so it's best to join a group or seek some out, especially looking for those nearby to your location, I live in a fairly wide country with a lot of open fields and countrysides like this, that are typically the best to find out if there's any laws/licensing (ownership and all) in those places. But if you're interested then do look into a group or similar.

    I know that it is all user preference and everybody has their own. But what really bothered me was the shot size comment at the begining. I have been using seven and a half shot for years with a 28 inch barrel over under and modified chokes, never had a pheasant get away (mind you my dog did sometimes help) This year 2021 I decided to switch it up to either four or five shot and I have found that my birds still have a lot of energy left when they hit the ground and sometimes you can visually see that it is a solid hit and that bird continues to have hang time in the air. All I'm saying is that you should figure out what works best for you not just listen KZread videos. Sorry for the rant.

    Wow. I thought this video was in the US, until I heard the accent. Enjoy the sport. For all those non-hunters... It's FAR more difficult than it looks. The birds have more than fair chance. I am very good at shooting clay's, yet the birds...not so much. Also, by law, we must wear safety orange in the US. Odd to see you out in the field in "old school" attire. Wait, what?!? Was that a Brittney? Fantastic... CHEERS!

    Gauge , not bore. Bore is a measurement of the diameter of the hole in the barrel. Gauge is the number of lead balls of said “gauge” it takes to make a pound. Thus it takes 12 lead ball of 18.5 mm to equal a pound. Thus , an 18.5mm bore shotgun is the same as a 12 gauge shotgun. .. but nobody called it an “18.5mm bore” but everyone calls it a "12 gauge” .

  • @48sydney

    @48sydney

    All pheasants are raised from chicks and placed into open topped pens ( to deter foxes and other predators) so that when they are strong enough they can fly out and be wild. They will be released early in summer to the pens and they can go free and unrestricted. Pheasant shooting season ( with a game licence) is October to January only and not every part of the shoot is shot every week. Some areas may not be shot over at all during the season and a high proportion of the birds go into the countryside for later years ( or are killed by cars or predators). Pheasants have a much better life than supermarket chickens , they are a source of cheap organic meat ( see the prices in the butchers). Game is only allowed to be shot by a person in possession of a game licence.

    don't start by getting your own gun. You could contact someone who runs a shoot, (a lot of farms have rough driven shoots) and see if you could beat there on numerous occasions, you may then be allowed to shoot there. But you would want perceptive before you start shooting seriously or you'll be wasting A LOT of cartridges, so get sown to a clay ground near you and get a less - you don't need your own gun. SO I'd say talk to people, ask questions really find out as much as you can. If you have a friend that shoots its a great head start as you can join them perhaps as a guest.

    @@xEpiCCMonKeYz first of all it never says in the video that they were released in to that area unless I’m missing something and hunting is apart of nature bc how else would we get meat it’s not like you can cast a spell and get it and sure you can say that not all animals that we get meat from are hunted but they are Butchered because most the time the animals are farm raised so it’s not like grocery stores make meat so it’s apart of the humans nature and if people didn’t hunt them it would lead to a over population and the same thing would happen to all animals if they weren’t hunted I mean they can even be hunted by other animals and yes I did spend half the video typing this

    Unfortunately I it’s illegal to hunt with bows in the UK, they say the reason is to ‘prevent causing unnecessary harm to animals’. Fox hunting is also illegal but goes on without any interference from local law enforcement or their governing authorities. One rule for some and another for everyone else I guess, good old free Britannia.

    Pheasants in the UK are very overpopulated and are as wild as any rabbit, chances are some of these scenarios the pheasants are farm bred and released to be used for general hunting like this. India has it's own problem with animals and their own issues of selling and stealing extinct species for profit and such.

    You should never really have your safety catch on until you can see your target, and are about to shoot it. Having your safety catch off for the whole time you have your gun closed and ready raises the risk of an accidental misfire; such as thinking that you are safe when you're not and swinging down through a person. Turning your safety catch off so soon like that should only really be permissible in clay pigeon shooting. Not a good message to people starting with shooting.

  • @josephhearnden5156

    if you shoot enough, you would take your safety of at the start of the drive. I take mine off at the start, risks of an accident are avoided because I hold my shotgun up in the air on my hip until i mount to lead onto a bird. Easy gun safety, just got to be sensible.
