Bionic Commando Longplay (Amiga) [QHD]
Ойындар
Developed by Software Creations and published by Go! in 1988
After the superb work Software Creations did in creating the C64 version of Bionic Commando, the Amiga conversion is a serious let-down.
Almost certainly as a result of the Atari ST, the game lacks scrolling, instead using a semi flick-screen approach.
The ridiculousness of this approach makes itself apparent when you discover the need to use the bionic arm to force the screen to scroll far enough to revel platforms you can latch on to.
Add in some inconsistent collision detection and enemy spawn placement, and you have a recipe for one of the most disappointing arcade conversions for the Amiga.

I had this one!! Nearly unplayable but man! What a soundtrack!!
Tim Follin's soundtrack is the only thing worth in this port.

For sure! To be honest: the game port was one of these crappy, unholy 1:1 Atari ST 16-color conversions for the Amiga, which made Amiga userer angry on a regular basis back in the days... But the Amiga soundtrack... that's something completely different. I even remember that I recorded it on tape back in the 80ies. Like the the score for Led Storm it's one of Tim Follins great works on Amiga's Paula-Chip. His progressive-rock-inspired synthpop-tunes are really great!

If we all ate pease pudding then the world would be a better place.
Oof, that flick screen is headache inducing. The only good thing about this is the music.

Yep - just an ST port really 😐
I was told by a friend of one of the programmers of this game, that it only took a day to port the Atari ST version over to the Amiga, which is probably why this conversion is so poor.
I wish someone recode this port so to have scrolling instead of that darn flip screen dynamics

@@Godzilla7302 You will have my support! HOWEVER this time is better to use arcade assets (from the named Top Secret version) but keep the Follin tunes :)
I LIKE AMIGA GAMES !
So many memories!!!...Amiga forever!!!
Thanks for playing this and uploading the video 🙂
I remember finishing this back in the day through sheer determination, and wanting to hear the next music. 1000 000 point bonus at the end!
And here i thought the amiga had hardware scrolling ;) i was so dissapointed with this coming from the c64 version. Oh well. The osts quite nice.
Music really good for the time
The 13min mark is how far me and my friends could go.

Good game! I not played this game.
This conversion is, as people would say back in the day, the absolute pits.
No scrollings and no sound effects: It looks really bad when you know what was the Amiga capable of.
Remember feeling pretty disappointed at this way back in the day. Hasn't aged well, somebody should salvage what they can some this and attempt an updated port.. (not volunteering :) )
10:10 lol, they couldn't get the funicular lift working on this version? Embarrassing when the C64 version has something the Amiga doesn't -_-

I was just watching the speccy port (which is good considering the hardware) and it seems to share much more in common with this rather than the c64. That being the flick screen scrolling and the missing lift. No excuse on the amiga.
Horrible. Even felt Tim was phoning it in. I remember faffing around with relokick and disabling caches to get it to work on my A600. Wish I hadn't bothered :D

I know Ben Daglish wasn't keen on the sample-based playback because the machine lacked the sense of identity the SID had, so never really felt the inclination to work with the format. Maybe Tim was the same?

@@AL82RetrogamingLongplays ben mentioned that in his retro hour interview if i remember ? There wasnt much of bens stuff i remember on the amiga although i thought his switchblade was pretty darn good. Tim on the other hand had some of my fave amiga tunes. Ghouls n ghosts and sly spy are classics.
Porting 100% from Atari ST except the audio
Why put yourself through this? I can talk as I've played much much worse.
This game is so bad...
