One of the funniest people I’ve ever seen, an instant cure for depression.

His genius is making jokes that are very simple, and told to blokes at the bar in a pub sound much bigger than they are. He does this by embellishments, mime, body language and technique. He digresses a lot to milk the laughter and keep its momentum going. He laughs out loud to both his own joke and the situation he is in. The theme that runs through all of his work, is the incredulity of the human condition ; how stupid people can be and how silly we are as a species sometimes. He is the interlocutor on our behalf; the observer of life and all its idiosyncrasies. His style remains the same : that of a loud and bawdy, uncompromising Glaswegian working class male. His jokes told in isolation by an ordinary person would fall on stoney ground . It’s his gift of elevating the mundane, to make us see ourselves through a bigger lens is what makes him irresistible and attractive as a persona. He is a pan comedian , his humour is universal. His success is due to the fact that he makes the everyday and the small seem much, much bigger and in turn we reward him by putting him on a higher place that’s above his god given standing. He is very much like The Beatles in this sense.

I remember listening to him when I was a young fella on my Walkman, terrified I'd be caught by my parents. Total legend. Ask Americans who's the best comedian and you'll probably hear Carlin, anyone back home says billy. Both brilliant!

Michael Dunne Comedian I'm Scottish, and I wouldn't like to choose one over the other, however, I agree that both are absolutely brilliant. I only discovered George Carlin through the wonders of KZread.

Chris and I loved Billy from the moment we heard him in the 80's. Awesome Love you , Billy, Live Long!!!

I first saw Billy in 1972 with The Humblebums - his song intros were amazing and overshadowed the music. He is inspired in the true sense of the word!

I only just found this guy but so far I'm finding his older stuff to be the funniest.

He's the only comedian I can think of that can laugh while delivering it and it being actual funny

He's so brilliant, but watching this in 2021 feels so weird, I remember being younger and video tapes, crikey now you can watch anything anytime...this video is case in point..

ive got Billy and Albert on DVD, I got it in The Billy Connolly Essential box set.

Billy is the kind of comedian you give a good review before you listen to him. Also the first I really identified with because I'm sure he has ADD or ADHD as I do and I to use curse words as punctuation LOL!

Dave ... separate out of this one of the segments from this video. The part where he talks about all his friends going swimming and freezing cold. It's brilliant.

I am doing my best to upload the whole show on other sites... Problem #1 - I need to find the VHS tape that had the show on it!.. Problem #2 - youtube doesn't let me download parts 2-6 on to my pc because of the copyright thing. I will post as soon as I solve either #1 or #2!
