Billionaire Ray Dalio Slams A New York Times Reporter

On Day 3 of Fortune's Global Forum in Abu Dhabi, CEO Alan Murray sits down with Bridgewater Associates founder and legendary billionaire investor Ray Dalio to discuss sounding the alarm on the perilous state of American politics. Dalio admitted that he’s dreading a rerun of the fractious 2020 Trump-Biden election which scarred the country.
That deeply divisive contest for the White House, which resulted in a Biden win, eventually led to an insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021, where Trump engaged in a “multipart conspiracy” to overturn the lawful election results and failed to act to stop Republican supporters from attacking the Capitol.
Dalio has already called the 2024 election the most important one of our lifetimes, as Murray reminded him. Dalio responded that he was praying.
He also highlighted that his family office has three branches-in the U.S., in Singapore, and in Abu Dhabi-and as he told Murray: “In the world today there are bright spots.” These places “have a culture in which there’s excellent education for most people, in which there’s civility,” and in which the economy is thriving.
Finally, Dalio responds to Murray's question about The New York Times reporter Rob Copeland's new book called "The Fund," which paints a less-than-rosy picture of Dalio and his path to success at Bridgewater. Although it largely focuses on internal staffing and management disputes rather than Dalio’s decades-long record as one of the greats of the hedge fund world, he says the book is all just “fiction, created as fact” by a reporter with a vendetta and that it’s a black eye for all journalists.

This is the reason why podcasts will slowly and completely kill the mainstream media. Podcasts have all the time in the world for the person to talk and explain all their points, unlike this format where they are constantly running out of time and their production manager "throttling" them!

Managing Money is different from accumulating wealth, and the lack of investment education in schools may explain why people struggle to maintain their financial gains. The examples you provided are relevant, and I personally benefited from the market crisis, as I embrace challenging times, while orders tend to avoid them. Well, at least my advisor does too.

@@zatarawood3588 BS fund? It's the top in the country, any finance undergrad would kill to put Bridgewater Associates on their resume even for a summer internship. "Then starts to say there are a lot of 'lies' in the book without actually citing any specific ones" - The reporter literally told him they were out of time but he wanted to sneak in a quick question, it was obvious to any listener he couldn't dive into specific but did his best to give an overview with slight details. "Clever sounding BS artist". He continues to run the largest hedge fund, wrote multiple detailed financial and history books, and runs active social media accounts (YT, Twitter, LinkedIn) where he delivers well thought out, quality production and detailed educational guides on economics and finance, as well as perspectives on geopolitics and history, you know, his career's work and expertise (MACRO). Any specialist can evaluate his research to determine that he is a shit talker, yet instead the most sophisticated international platforms invite him on for advice.

Ray is completely incorrect in his response to the book. The author withdrew his job application to Bridgewater as he simple did not want or need the job. Ray literally said in his book, the one that's caused all the controversy, ie that the US is in decline thanks to bad leaders, and China is rising thanks to good leaders, ie basic observable facts that hurt some feelings, that him talking about these issues would no doubt lead to him being character assassinated. also said he's a big boy, so bring it on. because he also said he believes it's his mission that in this last stage of his life he will act as a teacher, to share the things he's learned over his extraordinary life. just fyi. i read the book in question. it was the lowest level nonsense i've ever wasted my time on. such an obvious hit job. and not even a good one.

What a facile understanding of history, China, and grand strategy. Yes, Sun Tsu is famous for saying that ultimate success is to win without fighting, but that does not mean the PRC has some special acumen for that, or that the risk of war can be discounted. Then to use U.S. oil and steel embargoes against Japan as an example of competition without war is quite inapt, since it was precisely this policy that stimulated Japan to attack the United States and invade SE Asia.
