Billie said she made Oxytocin for one purpose only: for her live concerts. She wanted that one upbeat tune in the middle of the concert to change the mood. She usually wraps this song with the slowest or saddest one back-to-back.

By the way, Billie is the cover story for this month’s issue of rolling stone. The physical copy of the issue is supposed to hit stands on the 14th. Three days before her album drops. It’s a pretty revealing interview. She talks freely about some things she never really talks about or has talked about. Mostly about her sexuality (she recently came out as bisexual). Rolling Stone has said that this new album is her best one yet. That’s some high praise there. Their approach to this album was like, “let’s make an album that nobody is going to hear but us. I heard it in the 1st song as it was transitioning. Then I forgot about it when I started second song and it scared me!

Bossa Nova is a Brazilian music style (think “girl from ipanema”). Billie bossa nova is simply a version of the style. My future was the first song they wrote at the very beginning of the pandemic, and generally keep in mind this album was written during the pandemic. It puts a lot in perspective. So “I’ll see you in a couple years” simply means she’s not wanting to be in love with anybody else right now and wants to focus on herself (like: if you expect me to fall in love with you see you later right now I’m focused on myself so I can get to know myself so I can be in love with my future too). The other thing to point out is that the documentary about her rose to fame came out around the time she was writing the album and it’s very revealing of things she had been private about. That’s also why she could allow herself to write happier than ever the song. I don’t talk shit about you on the internet - very true, she didn’t. But once it was out there because of the documentary, it kind of free her from that embarrassment, since the knowledge was already out. That’s also why in “getting older” she’s saying that it’s time to tell (since it’s already out there). And it also references how she took going on tour for granted and and how flips it on its head, instead of saying “you miss things once they’re gone” she says “isn’t it weird that you get used to things you used to yearn for”. Also I’m not there yet in the video but in male fantasy she talks about how nobody else comes round, also lockdown related. Lots of little tidbits

@@toolertotmusicbox The doc is called “The World’s a Little Blurry” and it’s on AppleTV. Highly recommend. It explains quite a bit about how she was feeling when writing the majority of this album (2019/2020).
