The year where there were 2 dominated hits for the entire year, ‘Shape of You’ and ‘Despacito.’ Taylor also makes her comeback
Katys last top ten hit😔😢
2:06 Taylor blocking Despacito from being the song with the most weeks at #1 (at that time)
taylors epic comeback
This year was sort of special to me as it was the year I started to watch the charts closely. Can’t believe it’s been 5 years
The fact that despacito started falling off of the charts because of lwymmd 🤭 the power of my queen taytay holds 😌 btw new subscriber awesome content! 🥰

A few year later, her 2 songs were blocked by Old town road.

Taylor swift is so overrated
If there is any other year that can compete with 2012 for being one of the biggest shifts in music, it would be 2017. Why is 2017 so special, you might ask? Well for one thing Trap ends up completely taking over as one of the largest genres in music. It’s probably the most successful hip hop has been as a genre since the crunk era in the mid 2000s. Tropical House declined over the course of this year. As for #1s, there are two songs that completely dominated, Shape of You by a more pop-focused Ed Sheeran and Despacito, which would not only show how streaming has overtaken the radio and sales in power, but ushering a reggaeton and latin boom across the world and giving Spanish music a sizeable audience and allowing more artists to crossover to the pop world. Besides that, country is slowly shedding its bro country image while the small rock scene ends up losing its identity. Also…this is the first year in literal decades where a Christmas song made it to the top 10. 2017 is a year that I respect a lot more than I like. I think a lot of songs here are incredibly forgettable, without having a clear identity of its own. While this meant the songs that did stand out were often a lot more interesting to dissect and listen to, there is a lot of garbage to get through. If I’m being honest, this is probably one of the worst years of the 2010s. Best and worst #1s of the year: HUMBLE. By Kendrick Lamar (About time he got to #1) and I’m The One by DJ Khaled et al (I’m too lazy to write it all and that’s just one of the sins of this song)

Shape of You was number 1 for so long because Ed Sheeran noticed the trend of Pop and made the poppiest song
wild thoughts dominating! 7 weeks at #1 without despacito!
Good Ending would’ve been Despacito having 17 Weeks at #1 and Bodak Yellow having #1 From Sep 23-30 And Rockstar Dominating without Perfect

Naurrr rockstar deserved bodak yellows weeks at 1
this was truly the year rap started taking over
yasss post gets his first 1 this year
Looking back at it, ngl, I'm kinda astonished that when Shape of You was entering the peak of its powers that Bad and Boujee was still able to outperform it for a few weeks
I find it weird, amusing and hilarious to think that if Despacito never existed, 2017 would’ve been the year of DJ Khaled. Though I’m The One hit number one for a single week, it was blocked for 4 weeks and Wild Thoughts was blocked for 7 weeks by Despacito 😂
ed sheerans year
ed Sheeran truly owned this year
Sorry not Sorry❤
ed Sheeran slayed
Top 5 number 1 hits. 5. Bad and Boujee 4. Shape of You 3. That's What i Like 2. Perfect 1. Starboy Worst number 1 is I'm the One
It's curious to see How Justin Bieber spent 17 Weeks (1 with I'm The One and 16 Weeks with Despacito) on the Top of the Hot 100, although he didn't release a solo song in 2 years.
Were they robbed? A look at number 2 hits of 2017 and the songs that blocked them. I Don’t Wanna Live Forever - This song grew on me. 50 Shades is a bad movie franchise but damn are the songs good. It was only blocked a week by Shape of You, which is Sheeran’s douchiest song. I say robbed. Wild Thoughts - As I commented before, 2017 could’ve been the summer of DJ Khaled if Despacito wasn’t a thing. I’m the One and Wild Thoughts would’ve ruled the charts for a total of 10 + weeks. Thankfully, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee made sure that didn’t happen. I didn’t like the culture vulture tag along of Beiber but I love the version without him. Wild Thoughts is actually a good song even if it ripped off Maria Maria almost in its entirety. Sorry Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, y’all were just casualties of the Despacito phenomenon. Not robbed at all.
I think this year is the song i started to dislike the most lol not my jam
Cardi B had her first number 1 this year 🎉.
So many songs that deserved #1 this year😔😔
Lwymmd should’ve blocked bodak yellow.
Star boy deserved more weeks at #1
Not Ed Sheeran blocking Kendrick from debuting at #1
