Or it would at least make news coverage outside of Alex Jones? Plus what would his motive even be to begin with? Your entire case here is built on no real evidence, and the fact you’re cheering about him stumbling on the word “reducing” as being evidence only proves this.

    @Daily Catnip I can see ways to interpret this as making fun of bill gate as you pointed out, but, i think that would have to push certain assumption little further ahead than what people intended when they found this funny. I certainly found it funny that audience was doing little too much but you can replace anybody of interest(not just bill gate) and still found the situation to be funny. Perhaps what you were pointing out was, the show was taking opportunity to express this particular joke(which wasn't directed at bill gate personally ) in the expense of someone who took their time to come up onto the show. I see your point but it wasn't as personal as you would say. You gotta laugh at shallow attempts like this or you will see everything as insults.

    @Daily Catnip Talking about money without talking about power is a waste of time. Talking about bible references as it pertains to this subject, doubly so... but let's assess this not from my own views. Let's play with his ideas. Take the Giving Pledge for example. There is no greater apocryphal and hypocritical thing I can think of than the Giving Pledge. It is pure evil masquerading as saving the world. Everyone seems to adopt the sickening mantra of “oh how lovely, they’re just giving away half of their assets by the time they die.” As if somehow they get to hold the other half in death. Reality check, they lose 100% of their assets in death. This isn’t about giving in death; it’s about shielding assets in life and death. Questions you should ask before you dare think positively of these sick people: - If giving is the name of the game, why do they still continue to accumulate? Warren Buffet (a cofounder of this turd of an idea) just surpassed 100 billion dollars with wealth today... However, there would be far less to have to redistribute if they weren’t so hellbent on continuing to consolidate. Remember, it isn’t making money… it’s taking money… it has to come from somewhere. - Why do they still hold and seek positions of power and influence? The hubris involved in never relinquishing that control should scare everyone. I would like nothing better than to ignore billionaires, but they are relentless in pursuing us. Our information, our behaviors, our money, our labor, our time… I can’t trust anyone that has an obsession that unrelenting. Only in the pursuit of endless money do we seem to collectively praise addiction. - If relinquishing resources is so pivotal, then why do they always exert control over the charities, or worse, establish their own. Giving away something implies relinquishing control, and these people do nothing of the sort. If your choices are getting taxed 500 million dollars or donating that money to a charity that will in turn donate equipment/money to a company that your remaining assets are invested with, or pay the salaries of half of your family members that hold positions with the charity, or donate to political candidates in order to curry favor… then how is that ‘giving’ again? - Why do their charitable ventures always have market implications for the remainder of their investments? Bill Gates is a big fan of vaccinating 3rd world countries. But I wonder how much genetic information he has collected, how many government policies he has negotiated, and how many technologies he has been able to advance that will serve the profit generating ventures he is still deeply invested in. These aren’t charitable acts to him; they are forays into immerging markets. - Why do they insist on avoiding taxes at every opportunity? They could offset the tax burdens of quite a few people in the communities they claim to be trying to help. But when that check comes due, they can be found in the parking lot desperately shaking down the valet for their keys. No one likes paying taxes, but charity and tax avoidance are incongruent concepts. By redirecting their wealth in death to charitable causes, they are able to offset the value of their estates and avoid their remaining assets being taxed. Basically, the government is coming for half of their stuff when they’re dead anyway, thus by giving to charities their lackeys still get to manipulate the distribution of the funds whilst giving one final double bird to those that do have to pay tax. They desperately vie for government influence, but have no desire in to fill the general coffer. When they line government pockets, they like it to be specific in nature. - Wouldn’t the most charitable thing that they could do be to exert less influence? Money is a representation of power. Spending/deciding where that money goes is the expression of said power. Logically it would seem that removing themselves entirely from determining where to aim their money cannon would be the most altruistic thing possible. - Why must their contributions be intertwined so deeply with their legacy that they serve more as public relations than acts of generosity? Everything has to have their name on it. They always have to let everyone know that they gave something. Think about this though, does anyone else in your life go running through the halls screaming their heads off every time they drop a load of stuff off at the local Salvation Army? Would anyone even listen if they did, or would it be just too pretentious to listen to. Then why is it any different when a rich person gives? Anything to not become a modern-day Marie Antoinette I suppose. Personally, I’d rather there be zero personally beneficial tax implications through donations. If anything, I’d rather it be averaged into everyone’s taxable burden. Bill Gates and everyone else can share in my $2,500 Salvation Army trip and we can all share in his multi-billion dollar donations… However, I think if that were the case, only one of us would still be making their way down to the local drop off, if ya know what I mean…

  • @harlequin2280

    @harlequin2280

    @Daily Catnip The desire to want to have all of that power is quaint and nice on the surface, however it flies directly in the face of humility, which I think is the world's most underrated virtue. Whenever someone truly thinks that the answer to any of life's problems is "You know what this situation could use? A whole lot of me, followed by a second serving of me. If only there were more me in this world everything would be just great" then you know you've found the person least equipped to handle all of those problems. Plus... the concept of money is a utilitarian idea. You and I both pretend that it has value because it serves a mutual interest to do so. However, I fail to see the utility for us if someone were to endlessly consolidate that resource. Monopolies are generally agreed upon as a bad thing except when it comes to money... the most versatile of all resources. The reality is, there are very few sound arguments that favor the endless consolidation of wealth, which shouldn't be confused with merely being rich.

Basically, if the company is healthy, and they are not investing the money into employee wellness, then they will be taxed heavily since they are benefiting from the welfare system. This needs to be done carefully, so as to not kill the businesses, but to encourage them to act like their employees are human beings that need to eat to survive.

    That's exactly what Melinda said. She said that there are certain areas which are maybe too minority-specific or sensitive for a government to justify to all its tax payers in working for. Such places would be ideal for philanthropists whose actions aren't criticized as being politically driven. But healthcare and education are issues that a government has to take care of because they are a necessity for all people and there is no option other than a good compromise.
