Always the worst arguments from people with his attitude.. The whole "everyone was doing it" argument doesn't work.. BAD PEOPLE were doing it, there were good people who abhorred slavery back then... They were the good guys, the slavers were the bad guys.. The equivalent in the 80s was that the bad guys pinched waiters' asses while the good guys wanted none of that behavior.. But we still pretend it was just how it was in the 80s.. BAD PEOPLE DID THAT IN THE 80S..... Not everyone.. So the argument that "everyone was doing it" is just so damn flawed. Some of the worst people owned slaves. None of the best did. We always judge the actions of our grandfathers by what the worst of his era did... Imagine if we did the same today.. "Everyone was transphobic back then" can be used by the son of a transphobe in 2050... And people would believe it... Compelling but severely flawed justification is what conservatives live on.

I'm 63-year-old white dude. I used to watch Maher's show regularly. Heck, my ex took the kids to see him live on a couple of occasions. None of us pay any attention to him anymore not because we're woke, but because he's not funny. He stopped seeing politics as farce that it is as started to take a personal financial interest in it.

When I was a kid, I learned that Abraham Lincoln was a racist, and he accomplished all he did despite those feelings. It gave me a nuanced view of Lincoln and made his efforts all the more impressive. BTW, it was not recently that I learned this fact. I am 67 years old. (I think a week older than Maher.) I guess Maher doesn't trust students to know the whole story about our historical figures/heroes. He probably learned all that when he was young, but apparently forgot.

That's been a super, _SUPER_ regular thing to do for quite literally *hundreds of years.* (although FWIW I'm kinda surprised that they were even going to let them go in the first place.. @Michael Euthanasia , a million dollars is achievable if you're *lucky* and worked hard enough. Plus, millionaires aren't the main issue in society when literal billionaires exist. Meanwhile, being a multimillonaire or a billionaire doesn't require any hard work when you only rely on exploiting other people for your own benefit: firing them for no reason, paying low wages, making 'em work to their death, child slavery, etc.

One always has to remember that when Elon Musk talks about "free speech," he means that he wants to be able to say whatever he wants in public without the SEC breathing down his neck, and literally ONLY means that. He's not talking about anyone else's freedom of speech. Context is everything.

I don’t know it for a fact, but I just know it’s true… Maher held it with both hands and then swallowed afterward when this INTERview was over… and MuskET was speechless.

My daughter is on her last year with spring branch isd. Thank jesus, cause this is foolishness front and center..

If I was a parent who had given permission for my child to attend that performance, I'd be mad at the administration for cancelling the trip. First, because they were vague about their reasons for cancelling it and second, because if some of the parents objected to someone playing multiple parts in a play, I'd be questioning why they couldn't just not withhold permission for their own kid to go and let the other students attend - as completely ignorant as their objections were.

people like my dad still watch him. dad was a democrat when he was young and while dad has effectively become a republican, he still votes blue, so I guess that is acceptable. dad doesn't understand the trans people, so i had to explain it to him around the concept of personal liberty - while it feels a bit barbaric to me to explain it that way, it gets through to my boomer dad. dad still has cable.

Bill Maher survived saying on national television that it's fine to have sex with 14 year old boys, he isn't being cancelled, he's experiencing pushback, and the fact that it feels like "being silenced" to have his opinions and statements argued against should tell you just how sheltered he is.

I'm surprised that this much smug BS in one location didn't create a black hole and collapse this part of the galaxy.

I never thought about that before. The irony of bill saying “I’m so progressive that I don’t change!”

Billy can dish it out but he sure can't take it. May not be politically correct to say this but he seems to be getting that "small man" attitude more and more as he ages.

The thing that actually triggers him the most is when someone talks about getting "old". Katie Porter made a crack about how he sounded like a Boomer when complaining about Tik Tok, and he got visibly upset. The whole energy of the show changed after that. He is REALLY paranoid about getting old.

I used to watch him years ago because I liked listening to him bash Trump. I had to stop once he doubled down on the old man yells at cloud vibe.

I got banned from a libertarian leaning forum decades ago for calling it capital driven social Darwinism.

Maher's costume as a lib/libertarian needs to be refurbished. He comes off as a racist reich winger and kind of always has.

I think burr has seen his stuff taken by psychos from the manosphere and abused. That's why the criticism of Burr now is "he's soft, he's sold out, his wife controls him." Thay loved that when he was late 30s/ early 40s and filled with fake rage. Now they find out he's married (to a black woman), with two kids and very happy, they turned on him.
