Bret Weinstein Is A Total Charlatan
Writer Robert Wright Tweeted About Something Bret Weinstein Recently Said, Where He Made The Claim That Democrats May Have Maintained The Vaccine Mandate For Armed Forces To Degrade Military Readiness. Wright Thought That Weinstein's Theory Was Completely Crazy, Despite Agreeing With Some Of Bret's Claims In The Past. Weinstein And His Wife Heather Heying Responded To Wright, And Said That This Was Not A Theory But A Hypothesis.

@@soulknife20 You'd be starting with a fallacy so you'd need to stop doing that and work from a model. You should check out Karl Popper's solution to the induction problem. Induction in most of its forms is fallacious. For instance, the black swan fallacy is currently a famous version of how induction goes wrong.
@bertthompson4748
Жыл бұрын
@@noosphericaltarzan the problem of induction is that we cant ground it in any epistemic foundation. That doesnt mean its a fallacy since. 1. Induction works 2. It contains no logical contradiction. Now if youre talking about the black swan fallacy, yeah that can be a fallacy but thats induction applied without testing which isnt science. For instance a scientist would make an observation, that swan is black, and from that generate a hypothesis. All swans are black and then test it. If we tag all swans known to exist they will all be black. The conclusion would then be limited to the tagging area which would mean inductively you could say "if i see a swan its probably going to be black" and be correct. Logically and outside of science a person will observe swans being black and say "all swans are black" which is fallacious.

Kind of bummed that everyone on the show was unfamiliar with Robert Wright’s work. A “Skeptic/science blogger” who operates in a space that is “definitely where Weinstein came out of” is a pretty irresponsible characterization. I’d recommended listeners of this show to subscribe to his Non-Zero newsletter where he has previously been quite critical of the Weinstein’s as well as offer quite good coverage of the Russia/Ukraine war and the American response to it, among many other things. He somewhat recently interviewed Ben Burgis (friend of this show) on his Hitchens book, whom Wright previously clashed with on the Iraq War. Hold you to a high standard: do better.

@markpostgate2551

Yeah, it's more likely the maintaining of mandates in institutions even after they have been found to be nonsensical is as a test of obedience. The military has always preferred cookie cutter conformists; a government doesn''t want mavericks or independent thinkers at the bottom end of a chain of command. That's a more likely explanation.
Bret made a plausible hypothesis. And it's hard not to agree with him. All the data SCREAMS that the mandates were obscene for any part of the population, let alone the military. Why would such a policy remain in place if its reducing military readiness? Those making these decisions are either doing so out of ignorance to the data, are too stupid to understand the data, or... it's intentional. You can argue it's not intentional if you want, but then you're left with our military leaders being ignorant or stupid. Pick one.

It's a false dichotomy. There's a possibility that you are wrong. The risks of the vaccine were overblown by people like Weinstein who made their living spreading fear and misinformation. It is clear that whatever the risks of the vaccine, the risks of the real infection in the unvaccinated are much higher. And exposure to the virus is unavoidable for the military. The readiness of an unvaccinated military was more threatened than that of an unvaccinated military. The vaccines are not risk-free, but full infection was/is riskier. Many people seem to miss this simple point. They act like the vaccines are super-dangerous and COVID is completely harmless, which is nonsense. Most people I know were vaccinated. They are all fine. A few I knew who refused the vaccine are dead. A large portion of people I know got COVID eventually. Those who didn't get vaccinated got much sicker with COVID and had longer-lasting problems. I so far haven't gotten it as far as I know. I have had four doses of vaccine. I am grateful for it. It isn't ideal to take vaccines. I would rather it wasn't warranted. But it was better than the alternative, a lesser evil. It is too bad this whole thing, like most things these days, became so politicized/tribalized.
That guy in the bottom right looks like he ate two loaves of bread, mashed potatoes, and has to deuce any second now.

@markpostgate2551

Is that leaving things understaffed or is that an acceptable amount of staff to offload. I don't know what 63k would be as a percentage of the whole (Full disclosure: I'm totally a civilian. I can't even march in time! Conscripting me would be like a Woody Allen sketch from the pre-Mia era when he was funny). If it's only 10% or less they might be deliberately wheedling out non-compliant personality types. Hazing rituals, which are traditional in military outfits even though the modern military officially disapproves of them, must lead to some dropping out, but the point of the ritual is that those that remain are less likely to leave because they have undergone an ordeal that would have been for nothing if they left after having gone through it, so they become more committed to their membership of the group responsible for their hazing. Well, that's the theory at any rate. So given hazing must lead to some drop outs, is it a similar figure?
@gkilsetup442

@@markpostgate2551 it's in unacceptable offload. Our rating in the army for man power is "marginal"- with other branches labeled " weak" . With a 25% debt to the next year. They claim it's " only this or that percentage "- as if they can afford the loss- but that's to save face and de- legitimize covid Injection resistance. They've been operating at low capacity for sometime and there's no elaborate " weeding out" or " non-compliant personality types" . Dont give them too much credit- they still think crossfit pt is good, and dont know how to web design.I served 20 yrs - kind of an asshole thing to imply "unsoldierly" personality type for those resisting an unlawful order. served in Iraq 2006 2007; special operations- I've been through " ordeals" you can't even grasp-earning so much- still, ill refuse and lose. Jail me; bad conduct discharges; I'm ready. I'll frame a letter of reprimand- most honorable thing i earned. and I don't know what " hazing" you're talking about, that's for rich highschool kid lacrosse teams. Or closeted football players. Id walk away with nothing and still would gain everything. Life is bigger than this. The military can't undue the service I already serve; they can't " unvet" me. I am what I am. I served to be a soldier. Just that. It's a culture thing. All they can try to do, is blacklist me, label me- that doesn't matter to my soul or to the world. This isn't the 1950s. It's an unlawful order- they had to alter the definition of vaccine- and what they claim isn't backed by anything- approved by unelected offices and panels. That's like renaming " genocide " to " administrative culling"- then providing an "explanation" that sounds official with " science" . Exactly Like Hitler. It's in the army core values to demonstrate PERSONAL COURAGE, at risk to comfort of career and self, to contest such unlawful orders. And to BEAR TRUE FAITH IN THE CONSTITUTION- the Supreme law of land - above the president and any elected offices

Fourth biggest air force in the world: The US Navy. 7th biggest air force in the world: the US Marine Corps Here are the stats for those interested. They might not be up to date, but seeing as the US upped their defense budget, it's probably not been equalized. 1: United States Air Force - 5,217 2: United States Army Aviation - 4,409 3: Russian Air Force - 3,863 4: United States Navy - 2,464 5: People's Liberation Army Air Force (China) - 1,991 6: Indian Air Force - 1,715 7: United States Marine Corps - 1,157 8: Egyptian Air Force - 1,062 9: Korean People's Army Air Force (North Korea) - 946 10: South Korean Air Force - 898 That's 13247 aircraft for the US. 10475 for the rest of the top 10. Just the air force and the army alone would be more than the rest of the non-US nations on the list combined... The fucking NAVY has more air crafts than china's air force.. They're on the ocean! And they have more planes than China's air force.... To a lefty, that's just insane stats that prove that there's immense waste in military spending. To a conservative, that's just bad-ass! Muricah!
