    The scary part is knowing that he was stronger than everybody without pushing his own limits. We all see that his lifts were brutally easy even with an injury. I wish Kaz would've really tried to actually max out and set crazy numbers that we would still be chasing today. His squat and deadlift 3rd attempts he could've repped out multiple times.

    I heard he came in to this comp with a torn hip flexor as well. He could have done at least a 950 squat no problem. His bench was not there because of the shoulder injury but by the looks of that deadlift he could’ve done over 900lbs for a 3rd attempt.

    Kaz totaled 2425 lb (926/661/838) for a world record that stood for almost 10 years despite the invention of the bench shirt and the improvement of the squat suit. It still would be the current raw wr today, but Kaz used an odl marathon suit for the squat (current raw wr total is still 2391 by Reinhoudt) Kaz' best official lifts were a 925.9lb squat in old marathon suit, 661lb raw bench and 886.9lb raw deadlift. He also did a 1124lb strongman deadlift with straps and 969lb squat on smith machine

    Are you kidding me? People are comparing Ronnie Coleman to Kazmaier?! Not even close. Kazmaier not only did it on the powerlifting stage, he also did in the WSM. Bill has real strength not just weight room strength. Coleman has some home movies from his gym? It is not the same. Also keep in mind this was video footage from a full meet, not video highlights of his best lifts.

    Kaz's difficulty in getting a grip to squat with a standard power bar, along with Lee Moran's attempt at squatting 1000lb where the sleeves could not safely accommodate the plates and collars, inspired Dave Pasanella to design the first squat bar. Kaz was a strongman and adept at walking with weight, so how much a monolift would have helped him I don't know, but a squat bar absolutely would have.

  • @yozkopf3000
    @yozkopf300011 жыл бұрын

    I absolutely agree. I mean he was just 27-28 when he hit the 661raw bench and the 2425total - way before his normal physical prime. After his pec tear at WSM81 he couldn't bench any more than 540lb in competition - a devastating injury from which he never fully recovered. Look at Zydrunas Savickas - now at 37 he has his strongest lifts ever after 19 years of lifting and strongman. A injury-free Kazmaier at 37 and the same amount of training would have been the greatest ever by a huge amount.

Remember his bench at his best is 661 I believe. No Strongman this day can even get that. Besides Strongman in the early days is way different than now.

    This was after a pec tear in the worlds strongest man bar bend. He was doing 600x6 before that (touch and go I'm sure). But even with that injury he still dwarfed people in strongman contest until the late 80's. Most totals today are attributed to the gear and bad judging. Go by the IPF totals and non other. It's why you hardly ever see a the geared guys come close to winning strongman competitions.

    oops I am sorry I did mean 2425lbs (925,9lbs squat, 661,4lbs bench press, 837,8lbs deadlift) in 1981. The 865-622-804-2292lbs is actually from the IPF World Powerlifting Championship 1979. In the Senior US National championships 1978 he did apparently 782-534-804-2121. In 1983 when injured he did 848-501-799-2149. Informations are from en.allpowerlifting com site. Bill totaled 1100kg = 2425lbs (865-622-804) in '81 which was the WR for years. But the squat is not not categorized as raw - he used a loose old squat suit. Whether it enhanced the performance at all is very doubtful. OD Wilson totaled 1102.5lbs (2431lbs) but with better gear. Best completely raw total ever is 2,391lbs (with wraps) by Don Reinhoudt in '75 and 2298lbs (without wraps) by Don Reinhoudt in '74. Bill could have beat him in completely raw total I think. Sadly injured his pec in WSM81.

    Depends on the size of the lifter and their shoulder flexibiity - getting your arms in closer does tighten your upper back BUT getting them too close if you aren't flexible enough will round your upper back over. Plenty of lifters still have their hands very wide. Bill Kazmeier here was well over 300lb and you can see how small he makes the equipment! He'd have had them out wider if he had the option, I'm sure.

    Carnage at that time he was. but he could have much bigger totals. did you see how easy he did the 800 pound deadlift? that shit was nothing to him, and he even had an injury too. his squat was also really good too. those aren't even his max.
