Netscape really really *really* sucked back then, it was heavy, slow, it didn't even install sometimes, if it did then the amount of spam and ads all over the screen without even typing an address was annoying and this happened all the way until Firefox showed up on ~2004 or so. Of course you've gotten Opera which was good but also somewhat heavy for the machine and expensive compared to free IE.

Imagine if the DOJ succeeded in not allowing big tech companies to add new features to their software over time. That would mean no software updates or live service systems. Governments and politics will always be the bane of technological innovation

The first red flag you should have noticed is why on earth with the DOJ be involved like that? How often do you hear the DoJ get involved in other tech companies for no reason? Secondly this is the old Microsoft. Which was a ruthless and vindictive monster who wouldn't mind destroying competition in any way possible legally or illegally short of actually killing people. The history of Microsoft is littered with examples of them doing all kinds of shady things including bullying to stay ahead. They even warning pc manufacturers that if they offered Linux as an option to windows they won't be allowed to get licenses for Windows which basically meant PC manufacturers had little choice. Even if you like Windows you should be aware that Microsoft was not a good guy.

If you're still not convinced. You can check out Dave's Garage on KZread. He is a retired Microsoft programmer who actually created task manager! But he also mentioned how he created zip folders and Microsoft liked the idea but made it clear that either they will buy zip folders on their terms or they will simply clone the functionality of zip folders themselves. Yep Microsoft didn't even care if the programmer was working for them, he did get paid but not nearly enough.

Several thoughts on this 1. Amazing that Microsoft is still used by 75% of all business. Oracle, Linux, Apple and many others were never able to destroy their dominance. 2. Disappointing that Microsoft was not able to create a mobile platform better than Android. 3. Major disappointment that Microsoft was able to make Explorer or Bing a strong search engine to capture ad revenue 4. Although Windows and Office are much better than Apple, both Microsoft and top PC makers like Dell should have made their PC cooler and more desirable to the younger generation. Just go to any college campus and 90% plus of the people have Apple.

The Government should sanction countries that misuse the Internet. Or create a law for countries. That they are revealed against or do not comply with the treaties. Like IRAN, CHINA AND RUSSIA. Since The country in which it was invented. You must manage since you have the patents.

@@josueyanezgomez8890 That doesn't tie into the idea of the internet being the greatest invention because of its potential to amplify free speech. If you allow anyine to regulate it, youre also opening a door for further control. Secondly, nobody owns the internet. Yes, the United States have provided the economic framework for new inventions to be better appreciated and for entrpenierual spirit to grow, but the internet isnt tangible or quantifiable in that way..myou could regulate the major companies, but that way youd be killing the fundamental ideas that have made the internet.
