When he mentioned asking for directions made me think of when I was driving through Georgia years ago. I had got off the main road to just mingle around and got lost. I asked a guy out by a fence how to get back to the main road. It went something like this. "Well lady, ya take yourself on down yonder to the big red barn, well, it used to be red, looks kinda pink now. Turn left and keep yourself going till you come to Pete's pig farm, might not see 'em, but you'll smell 'em. Now, about three skips and you'll see 'old Bessies place, she has those pecan trees we go to every year. Turn left again at the Jenkins farm, his 'ole rusty tractor will be sitting out front, been there since Moby Dick was a minnow, and keep going....you'll see the main road."Told him thank you and went on. I thought oh goodness I will never find the main road......but by golly there it was.

When my husband and I went to Maryland for our youngest son’s wedding, we rented a nice cottage - - I had brought all those DVDs and they were a big hit with the relatives (who stayed with us at that cottage). It was very nice to see his first appearance, on the ‘Johnny Carson Show’ (I worked many PM and night shifts at our local hospital, and didn’t get to watch the ‘Johnny Carson Show’).
It is great to see Bill Engvall on the Tonight show with Johnny. Bill is still at it, very funny guy, I love his humor. Great upload....
When "here's your sign" played on my stereo cassette player I had to crawl to from my sofa to it to turn it off; I was laughing so hard. Breathe ☺️😅
Funny back then too. ❤️🙏
omg, how fun is this, that just popped up on my screen?! i love this. saw him and the gang live once, years ago. but this joke that he starts out with, turned into a song called “here’s your sign”. look it up, its too funny. hubby even sang it at karaoke a couple times. those lines were in the song. lol
Bill you always do comedy proud!
Just love him
I’ve been watching him for years! I think he is adorable and hilarious I love funny handsome men! The best part about seeing this, I have always heard “here is your sign”! ! Now I know what the sign says “I’m stupid”! 😂
OMG, I just literally put a comment on another older video of Bill's, and I said it would be cool to see some of his early stand-up, and this just popped up. I'm almost too excited to watch it now!!
Thank you! I needed a good laugh today! 😅💕
Bill Engval is the best!
Didn't get the couch invite, but had the audience.
Without a doubt, one of my all time favorite comedians!
I am going to see his show tomorrow! Can't wait!

yeah absolutely I’ve been married for 32years I was 22 and he was 26. he got cancer in 2020 I was totally lost without him. He took a major hit the treatment was horrible for him. I could not do nothing to change any thing so I felt helpless I miss Him everyday.. seeing this makes me miss him even more I come to this page all the time just to have that nostalgia
Real talent
Thank the Lord for Bill and Jonny!
The here's your sign routines 5 the dorkfish one keeps me cracked up!😂
One of my favorite all time comics with a great act. Here's Your Sign was part of the Blue Collar Tour with Jeff Foxworthy, Ron White, and Larry the Cable Guy. Brilliant. And none of them were self-hating lefties eager to force everyone else do as they say, for safety. Truly American humor. Miss them. Loving this series of uploads, big thanks. Paz.
He made an appearance on Star Search in 1984 and it could have made enough of an impression on Ed (who was hosting at the time) to get him to appear with Johnny...
Glad to see this! I didn't hear about Engvall until about 1995. Same with Foxworthy.

He got the "OK", but not the couch. GUESSING because they probably would've shown couch too as that's part of a performance too. 🎬

Maybe he was the final guest of the night, and they didn't allow enough time for him to talk to Carson.
A funny comedian with a clean routine. What a rare gem!

You should look up the show "Full House" they got alot of funny jokes..."Fuller House" is basically full house 30 years later, with same vib....And at that time they had to be clean...

@@jonathanbair523 true. But what does Full House have to do with Bill Engvall?

@@willhorting5317 ~ That's what I was thinking...lol. Plus, I would rather watch most any standup routine long before a sitcom. Gag me with a spoon.
First saw Bill in Brea, Ca..CA... early '80s ,became my favorite immediately. Here 's your sign older than this.
Good ole days.
Good series this "first appearance"!
WTF? He didn’t get called over? He was funny and is always funny
Hahaha! I've bought three dogs in the same pet store. They just love me! 😁
“I tell you what!” “What?” “I just told you.” Lmao
That was great
he had to be stressing up there, but he didn't show it. he's consistent any era.
A legend is born...
If a guy laughs at his own jokes, that means he’s funny. 🙃
So good
Saw that when it was on TV the first time.
The best is when Bill (during Blue comedy) explains to his wife his airplane hit a deer!!

Oh wow. I've never seen this. And to think he's retiring this year :/
Awesome.
Brilliant
Saw this when it originally aired. Also, living in Metro Atlanta, when I saw it, I remembered that Delta flight that had two issues getting out of Dallas
Well, well well it was not Mr. here’s your sign yourself. I wonder if Bill Engvall himself would come out on his own video about him being on Johnny Carson this many years ago
Bizarre to see the "Here's Your Sign" set done in 1989! It seems so synonymous with comedy circa 2000, to see it done here so early in basically the same form is a little weird.
Little did Jeff know back then as he sat next to B.B. King, he would join him as a legendary Entertainer
I mean I knew it was a stupid person but I’ve never heard this bit of him explaining!😂

The “here’s your sign” thing took off and this original explanation stopped being part of the bit.
I had no idea what here’s your sign meant until today.
He was so cute.
Ty
uh oh, carson didnt invite him to sit. thats not good, but at least he went on to be huge, despite that.
The person that wrote those pamphlets, is the one now writing the disclaimers for the pharmaceutical companys.
Very funny stuff 🎉❤

Funny stuff
Im crying from laughing! Thank you!
Bill is one of my favorite comedians. He always talks about how stupid people and life in general can be.
You could tell way back then. Wow.
The first joke I heard him tell: the answer to stop people being killed by a tornado is to build a fake trailer park about 10 miles outside of town. Tornadoes always go for trailer parks first.
Couldn't tell at the end, did Johnny call him over? Every comedian says that was his blessing and meant you had made it.

no, he didnt. but he still went on to be a huge success.
Should have asked him over, Johnny. You don't often make that mistake with comedians, but you did with Bill.
He was the house comedian at the COMEDY CORNER in Dallas in 83/84. When I lived there. Amazing comedian.
Bought a new toaster the other day,, SIGN said "May Burn Bread" here's the sign
I watched Bill's last and first stand up today
Audience Rollllllllling !!!....Not a single F Bomb in sight.......I miss the the days when we were just " better" human beings.....
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤‼
Thank you Bill for so "stupid" humor, proving life can be funny w/o 4-letter profanity! I saw a bumper sticker on a pick up truck that is so true and made me think of Bill - "God must love stupid people - He created so many!"
