I remember that my Dad bought me this issue way way back as I was a fan of the century fighters (F-100, Voodoo, Thud, etc..), but what had a more lasting impression on me was Coulter's NASCAR car article, I remember it lingering around the house for years, and always a source of inspiration to build something outside of my wheelhouse. That was a great article to start the chassis with. A lot of the routing of plumbing in the cars varies from team to team, even car to car on the same team. Look at pictures of the 8 car and the 12 car from the 1988 Daytona 500… both from Stavola Brothers Racing but had different openings in the front facia. Still a very good article, thanks for sharing it.

I still have that magazine as well as many others from back then and since!

That is great article , I was able to pick a copy up cheap. I can always use good tips on Nascar builds. I have been building them since I was a teen , but have never seen this article. Thanks

Just realized, you can Google Bill Coulter and his many books on modeling will come up. The book I spoke of is the bound red cover with the #88 car. He also did a pricing guide on kits.

Thanks for digging out an old magazine again! Totally love it when you do. I think I have this issue. If I saw a model magazine with a Nascar model on the cover, I bought it! In my eyes, Bill Coulter is a god! Have a couple of his books.

Another great source was the Scale Auto Enthusiast 20th Anniversary Edition April 1999 with the Pontiac Grand Prix detail tips article. God those magazines were great.

There was a magazine/book in the later 80’s that was I believe a reprint of a multi part article from Scale Auto that covered the Mountain Dew Buick. The article was by Ronald Spannraft. The book is Building Model Cars: the best of Scale Auto Enthusiast magazine Volume II 1979-1984….could be worth a look as well.

Hello Luka, very good article on Fine Scale with Bill Couter. I have the magazine from 88 that was kind of "forgotten" in the pile and with your video I'm going to reread it again. I have a mini lathe and I have already made several pieces, which improves the overall appearance of the assembly. Thanks for the video !

As I plan to restart this hobby after a 30-year layoff, I have a box with 5 or 6 1980s NASCAR models. Why are they all falling apart? Did I make a mistake or maybe a series of mistakes?

There is an outstanding Hobby Shop in Tucson. It's a part of an Ace Hardware store. They are listed. I haven't been to Tucson in about 16 years. So I'm not much in the know of the area. No shows that I'm aware of down there. Next show in the Southwest is the Vegas show in August. I advertise it at the beginning of my videos.
