Ralph Dale Earnhardt (/ˈɜːrnhɑːrt/; April 29, 1951 - February 18, 2001) was an American professional stock car driver and racing team owner, who raced from 1975 to 2001 in the former NASCAR Winston Cup Series (now called the NASCAR Cup Series), most notably driving the No. 3 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing.[3] His aggressive driving style earned him the nicknames "the Intimidator", "the Man in Black" and "Ironhead"; after his son Dale Earnhardt Jr. joined the Cup Series circuit in 1999, Earnhardt was generally known by the retronyms Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Sr. He is regarded as one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR history and named as one of the NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers class in 1998.[4][5]
The third child of racing driver Ralph Earnhardt and Martha Earnhardt, he began his career in 1975 in the World 600. Earnhardt won a total of 76 Winston Cup races over the course of his 26-year career, including four Winston 500s (1990, 1994, 1999, and 2000) and the 1998 Daytona 500. Along with his 76 career points wins, he has also won 24 non-points exhibition events, bringing his overall Winston Cup win total to 100, one of only four drivers in NASCAR history to do so. He is the only driver in NASCAR history to score at least one win in four different and consecutive decades (scoring his first career win in 1979, 38 wins in the 1980s, 35 wins in the 1990s, & scoring his final two career wins in 2000). He also earned seven Winston Cup championships, a record held with Richard Petty and Jimmie Johnson.
On February 18, 2001, Earnhardt died in a sudden last-lap crash during the Daytona 500 due to a basilar skull fracture. His death was regarded in the racing industry as being a crucial moment in improving safety in all aspects of car racing, especially NASCAR. He was 49 years old.[2][6] Earnhardt has been inducted into numerous halls of fame, including the NASCAR Hall of Fame inaugural class in 2010.
The 1988 season saw Earnhardt racing with a new sponsor, GM Goodwrench, after Wrangler Jeans dropped its sponsorship in 1987. During this season, he changed the color of his paint scheme from blue and yellow to the signature black in which the No. 3 car was painted for the rest of his life. He won three races in 1988, finishing third in the points standings behind Bill Elliott in first and Rusty Wallace in second. The following year, Earnhardt won five races, but a late spin out at North Wilkesboro arguably cost him the 1989 championship, as Rusty Wallace edged him out for it by 12 points (Earnhardt won the final race, but Wallace finished 15th when needing to finish at least 18th to win). It was his first season for the GM Goodwrench Chevrolet Lumina.

While it's always good to have a guide like Chris to show you how to do it, the best way to learn is to just dive right in, start building, make mistakes, and have fun.😁

As a longtime fan, I just want to say THANK YOU for being honest and showing when little mishaps happen, like the chair coming apart. I have all kinds of setbacks when I try even the simplest things. You are incredibly skilled, but you don't hide mistakes. I totally respect you. Thanks for your awesome channel!!

Nice build! I built an original Monogram kit of Dale Sr's 1992 Lumina stock car back in 2020. I even used the original decals. They were a pain to use though. The old adhesive backing on the decals had a milky appearance when dipped in the water. I had to carefully clean off that milky residue with Q Tips and then carefully apply them to the unpainted body. I did the same thing you did with the body of that kit. Left it unpainted. Just needed a couple coats of floor polish. It shined up real nice.

Great video as always, Chris. I hope to see more "RCR" #3 racecars from SalvinosJR. Awesome kits and the decals are 2nd to none. I refuse to buy a new release until I watch your build video for it.

That mold is in fantastic shape considering that The chassis section was used in several different NASCAR kits with just different bodies and decals over the years. Most likely millions of kits came out of those molds!

Hey Chris great seeing you doing a Nascar and it turned out good as always, was wondering though if you are gonna build the Wes's Model Car Corner/Salvinos asphalt modified car that you did the box opening on a while back , would love to see it and your technique of building it ,especially since it seems like everyone has so many different ways to assembling it...

One decaling tip - use a hot plate to get the water warm. While you start with hot water, it cools off quickly.

We called them "hassocks" (however ya spell it) too (here in upstate NY). I'm amused by your reference to your dad. My dad built models as a kid and started me out on a really cool journey probably unknowingly. We built a Messerschmitt (however ya spell it) together and I was immediatly hooked. His models were balsa wood and paper, flying models. Today, many years later with channels like yours I'm once again enjoying this most rewarding hobby. As you always say, build for you and I agree, that's the secret to enjoying it.

I just built the original monogram version of this car 2yrs ago. I liked the decals here better. As you can probably guess I hit a road block when it came to the OG decals because it's just the "3" and the red pin stripe underneath. I had to trace the 3, make a template, and then use that to paint the silver so I could get that gap under the 3 and stripe correct. JRS did a way better job

Thanks Chris! Are you gonna get me started on NASCAR models again! I sure do miss when slixxs decals used to have amazing aftermarket NASCAR details for any driver any paint scheme. I remember the original monogram kits on that first tree you showed with the wheels was Chrome. I used to soak that in simple green to get all the Chrome off. I did not realize somebody else was making the kits now. I will have to check into it thanks again LOL

glad to see this un back again as to your remark about "flash" I do a lot of body work on my stuff I keep a bottle of liquid glue( like what you use) and I put flash and other plastic shavings in it until it becomes kinda like melted plastic I use it on places that regular filler won't work wellI have one bottle I am using and another that I am "brewing" because sometimes if you get too much plastic in it it will harden and be unusable----

What brush on glue are you using at min:sec 9:00?? I've got some but it kind of sucks. It seems like you're using quite a bit of it too and it doesn't damage or get gunky on the plastic?? Also, do you use the super glue on the painted parts, aka the final engine assembly for instance, because of it being painted??

The QC on this kit is really lacking. Sorry but paying average 45 bucks a kit equals well finished parts trees and main body parts. Im not a hater just a bit frustrated with the Charger kit ass I couldn't read the parts numbers and some didn't match the diagrams. I will buy this kit as my last and only Dale model lost the hood. Yup it took off for parts unknown land. I like your videos. Keep up the great work.
