The Ford F-Series is a series of light-duty trucks marketed and manufactured by Ford since the 1948 model year. The F-Series is marketed as a range of full-sized pickup trucks positioned above the midsize Ranger but below the larger Super Duty in the Ford truck lineup.[1] Alongside the F-150 (introduced in 1975), the F-Series also includes the Super Duty series (introduced in 1999), which includes the heavier-duty F-250 through F-450 pickups, F-450/F-550 chassis cabs, and F-600/F-650/F-750 Class 6-8 commercial trucks.
The fourth generation of the Ford F-Series is a line of trucks produced by Ford from the 1961 to 1966 model years. Introducing a lower and wider cab over the previous generation, Ford introduced several design changes to the model line. In line with modern pickup trucks, the bed sides, hood line, and window sill were all the same height. Ford returned the F-Series to two headlights (a design change that remained in place for over 50 years).
Several design configurations were introduced by this generation. The F-Series panel van was discontinued (replaced by the Ford Econoline) and Ford introduced the "integrated pickup" for 1961.[3] In line with the car-based Ford Ranchero, the Styleside configuration welded the cab and bed body stampings together (removing the gap between the two).[3] After 1963, "integrated pickups" were no more.[3] For 1965, the model line underwent a substantial revision, introducing chassis and cab that would be used by the F-Series through 1979. Alongside the debut of the four-door crew cab configuration, the long-running "Twin I-Beam" independent front suspension and 300 cubic-inch inline-6 were both introduced.[4] Taken from the defunct Edsel brand, the Ford Ranger nameplate made its first appearance.
The model line was assembled by Ford across multiple facilities across the United States, Canada, and Mexico; the model line was also assembled by Ford Argentina. In Canada, the F-Series was again sold as the Mercury M-Series.
Due to poor market reception, and rumors that overloading caused the doors to jam shut, the unibody trucks were dropped midway through the 1963 model year. The 1961/64 models have the turn signals in the grill. 1964 models received an all-new Styleside bed with more modern styling as well as a longer wheelbase on two-wheel-drive trucks while short beds and 4x4 retained the earlier wheelbases.

    I wish they would bring out in 1966 Dodge pick up model kit. They've put out plenty of Ford's, and Chevy's in the past, but the only Dodge kidts that we seem to get, When it comes to trucks, has been the 1977, or the 2000's trucks.

    Actually, the reason unibody was discontinued was that the underbody twisted and flexed under loads and more damage was resulting to the body panels.

    I own a 1961 F100. Bought it in 1976. It's a long bed Integral Cab. That was the Ford term for what those who don't know call a unibody. Mine is the small rear window, which was more common than the big window that AMT did in the kit. I prefer the smaller window anyway. With the small window, no chrome trim on the side. If you have the big window and the side trim, most I've seen the center of the trim is painted bright red. Regardless of body color. My best friend had a '63 Styleside shortbed. That had the separate bed which was the same as the bed on a '57-60 F100. My '61 came with a 292 Y Block V8 engine with a 3 on the tree manual trans as in the kit. The 292 factory paint is Ford Engine Red. Including valve covers. The 3 speed manual is iron case painted black. But when that died with 275K miles on the engine in the late 70s, I couldn't find any parts to rebuild it. I was checking with early T-Bird restorers. Calling around the country on long distance phone calls then was quite expensive. No internet. These days you can call China for the same cost as calling down the street. Those guys told me ,"No, we don't have engine parts, but if you find some, we'll pay you a finder's fee." After hearing that a few times, I gave up and turned to a later model engine. I was going to go with a 351W and bought one, but since I intended to use it to tow my offroad race buggy, I wanted the beefier C6 auto trans. Couldn't find any small block C6s. Only C4s. So I bought a 390 with a cam, an Edelbrock intake and an AFB carb (now sold as an Edelbrock) with headers and a C6. Now 45 years later I live 75 miles away from where I did then, the wrecking yard guy lives around the corner and his wife does my wife's nails. Small world sometimes. Many years later, that 390 was worn out and I replaced it with a 428 Cobra Jet out of a '70 Cougar Eliminator that was crashed. Got it from the same wrecking yard guy. When I swapped in the 390, I repainted the F100 in the original Aquamarine and put on a set of US Mags aluminum slot mag wheels. It's way overdue for another rebuild now. The 428 sounds like the pistons are trying to swap holes and the paint is developing a patina. I have a built AMT 61 F100 in my display case, but it doesn't represent the truck parked outside. I intend to take the grille from that and build this new '63 into my '61 with a 428 CJ and C6 from a 67 Fairlane kit.

    One comment I have on your build methods. I don't use primer on models unless I'm trying to cover molded in color plastic, or bodywork and filler. In fact I plan to primer my 40 Willys pickup later today. I cut the backs of the fenders off the cab and attached them to the tilt front clip so putty was involved. But otherwise I don't use primer. It makes the overall paint substantially thicker and often needs sanding to smooth it out before painting, which risks detail loss. I notice you even prime interior and chassis pieces before painting. Even in the 1960s spray paint or airbrushed bottled paints adhere really well to styrene with no need for primer. But your builds come out really clean, so don't think I'm saying you're wrong to primer. But for newbies, know that it's not necessary unless there's putty or molded in color you're trying to cover.

    Would've thought they'd make an interior for the camper. Or at least some bed structures. I'm not saying that the kit is bad or anything of that sort, just that I assumed they'd put an interior in that camper box. Nice build as always.

    @@kevinjones7171 Dunno how prices go in your part of the world, but here, all of Revell and AMT's kits have gone up to the point they cost as much as Tamiya, Aoshima and Fujimi kits, which are roughly the same price they always were. So, for the price raise, I expect them to put everything they can in the kit.

    Wel that might be nice for a slide in camper. But this represents a fiberglass camper shell. Not a full camper. It aint for glamping. It's for roughing it. No cabinets. No stove. No toilet/shower. No table. No dinette. So you might add a thin mattress up in the cabover and some carpet on the bed floor with some camping supplies, like a lantern, a Coleman folding stove, a rolled up sleeping bag or 2, a vintage ice chest, a couple folding chairs and maybe a couple of paper bags with food peeking out the top like a loaf of bread, a bag of chips and any other groceries you might take camping. A couple of rifles as included in the MPC gangster cars would be good.

    Yes it would be nice if AMT did a whole new tool of the chassis for this truck. But the kit is 60 years old. It's a re-release. Like a number of other kits of 1960s cars that are being re-released recently. The 1960 F100 is another example of this. If you compare them to kits of Chevies released since 1990, they suffer in the comparison. Unless you compare the AMT '91 GMC 3500 Extended cab dually with 1 piece chassis. Or the '90s 3500 Dodge with 1 piece chassis. Or the Chevy C10s 1967 to '72 with 1 piece chassis. Why do I see more complaining about the Ford kits than I do about the Chevy kits? I also don't see complaints about Tamiya, Aoshima, Fujimi, Hasegawa kits? I have recent issues of BMW 320i Turbo, Celica Liftback Turbo and others with simplistic chassis. I want detailed chassis and engine in my models. But sometimes you take what you can get.

  • @dustymojave

    @dustymojave

    4 ай бұрын

    Lots of strong degreasers will take most paint off. Purple Power/Super Clean from the automotive department at Walmart has these. Many modelers fill a Rubbermaid plastic container with this and call it the purple pond. LA's Totally Awesome too. Just use a plastic tub big enough to dunk the body shell and fill it full enough to cover the body. Soak for 1/2 hour or several days until the paint comes off. Will take off lots of chrome plating too. Oven cleaner, or brake fluid also work. All of these will rinse off with water. Such tricks are often mentioned in model builder's KZread channels. I would refer you to some, but KZread will ban me for a while again if I do.

    Ford built the Integral Cab for the 1961, '62 and '63 model years. And so did AMT.

    Great build Chris. Fortunately your truck will outlast the real unibodies. Totally a failure in manufacturing, a short lived one at that.

    Read my comment about0p my '61. It has about 3/4 of a million miles on it. I still see others like it around. Mine has been used for drag racing, hauling wood on a lumber rack and in the bed when working as a carpenter, steel when working as a fabricator, dirt bikes when racing AMA Desert, towing my offroad race car to Desert races in California, Nevada, Arizona and Baja. Thousands of miles of offroad and rough dirt roads with a load. It's carried a camper until the siding is coming off the camper. 1,000lb pallet boxes of plastic resin, sand, gravel and other construction materials. The only drawback I see to the design is a need to do a little extra maintenance to keep the door latches adjusted properly when working the truck hard offroad. When I bought it in the mid 70s, I looked at all brands of pickups and most of the Chevy and GMC trucks of a similar age had bent frames. My friend's 64 Chevy panel truck has always had issues with keeping the door latches adjusted too, but it has never seen a dirt road in its life. Nor has it carried much load inside, although it has many miles behind it towing race cars. My unibody (as thode who don't know call them) has worked well for me. That's why I've kept it nearly 50 years.
