Thank you for this clear sequential explanation. I am not a scholar of biochemistry but I needed to understand the difference and relationship of bile salts and bile acids, since some of my reading sites one or the other and I had nothing to relate one to the other. This was perfect! A piece of basic metabolic chemistry uncloaked!

That's why when i took bile salts my testosterone was through the roof, but when i stopped my T dropped to normal, btw i eat a lot of fat, but i have problem with my gut flora so i can't recycle bile. Appreciate the knowledge.

Another way you can increase the amount of cholesterol that is excreted through the bile is by increasing the amount of fibers in your nutrition. Cholesterol gets traps in the fiber and continues its way through the intestine.

Isn't the small intestines supposed to be sterile? You said the microbes in the duodenum help process the bile and I question this information. If there are microbes there (not an ideal situation, as in the case of SIBO) the microbes might be doing that but I don't think that bile is designed to be processed in that way in the small intestines.

What types of cholesterol does it remove because it is good to have high levels of HDL but it's good to have lower levels of LDL. I'm sure there are other types of cholesterol but not sure of those. But the HDL is for repairing damage on the arteries so if HDL is high then it's a good sign that the arteries are in good shape.

Thank you for this thorough explanation of bile and it's process through digestion. It helped me understand why I need to take supplements due to removal of my gall bladder. Thank You!

Wondering the same here. It is very confusing what type of acid to take without causing much harm, I have a disfunctional bile forming sludge all the time, should i take cholic acid or ursodeoxycholic acid 😭
