If you are interested in how a radical is formed in Vitamin B12, it is formed by the homolysis of a Cobalt-carbon bond in Vitamin B12. The paper I looked at is by Dr. Jun Masuda, "How a protein generates a catalytic radical from coenzyme B12" in Cell Magazine.
