    1:40 - In one of my early videos I almost came a cropper like that, I got bored in a long line of traffic and decided to blast past and then at the front of the queue, a car turned right, luckily I was far enough back, but that was a lesson learned

    I still have problems seeing some driveways... 🤦🏻‍♂️ The thing is, they want you to ride as you normally would, so they can point out things you can improve. If you suddenly change your riding "for them" it misses the point. My IAM Observer once said to me: ride every road you know as if it's the first time you're on it, and every road you don't know as if you ride it every day. It's a great experience, I've done it twice, but before I started doing YT videos. Might do another next year. Good video! 👍

    yea, I got one of the one-hour-bike-safe rides at the BMAD bike bike festival years ago, it's pretty hard to ride as you would do normally, but you find it quite easy to slip into once briefed that nobody was going to get a ticket or a bollocking for being sub standard, you get into the spirit of it. I don't know if they even still do those short bike safe testers these days, but they were hugely popular back in the day. I frequently find that the bike cops our way will often gesture to you to tuck in behind them on the 100 mile slog between the A30 and the motorway if you have local plates and a load of luggage on. We have a good lot of bike cops down our way, nice bunch of guys, very biker friendly. They get the respect back. To be fair the traffic cops in Devon and Cornwall are very fair and sensible. Avon and somerset bike cops also seem a good sensible tolerant bunch.

    Good job. The importance is the realization that we aren't perfect riders. One doesn't exist. Took me back to my instructor days back in the 90's. Being followed by a Cardington instructor was bad enough but this is another level. I believe we all should have this critique from time to time to keep us grounded and ultimately safe👍

    WoW! Great isn't it! I just got back from my BIKESAFE today. Also had an IAM advanced rider too, so I had my work cut out when I was at the rear; I think I preferred being at the front. Totally enjoyed and would like to do it again, may look into training with IAM next. Thanks for sharing your video......Ride safe!

    They're riding in relation to speed is quite surprising, isn't it. They ride to a specific "system" I believe and it's all about making safe progress which, include correct speed especially when overtaking.

    Bike safe is a brilliant course and well worth the small cost, having a professional explain to you what you can improve as well as what you are already doing well is awesome. I would also recommend the "biker down" course. It's usually 1 evening and is run at your local fire and rescue centre. It teaches you how to dress and ride safely on the road and also biker first aid should you ever need it for someone else. Stay safe bud and enjoy the course 👍

    A little late to the party as I just spotted these video's after doing my BikeSafe workshop with Gloucestershire Police yesterday. I know the Police officer presenting the workshop said they were not there to issue tickets, but 80 MPH on an A road! You must have had a very forgiving assessor. I have to agree though, BikeSafe is a superb way to spend a Sunday and I had an amazing 1 to 1 assessment with John, who as I understood it is an IAM Master Rider. The route we took was superb and his feedback was exactly what I hoped to get from the day. I have to agree that if you have not done a day with BikeSafe, you should. As for the cold. My ice warning light was on before I even left Weston! Once I got out of Thornbury on the A38 towards Gloucester it was 2 degrees pretty much all the way.

    I found this really interesting. Good job! I’ve been riding a long time, and like to think I know what I’m doing. But, am I just getting away with it? It would be good to be judged by a pro. I tell you something I think is good to practice. I watched a video by ‘Biker1k’, where he was running a commentary on his ride. Pointing out every possible hazard, explaining his road positioning etc. I’ve tried it, and it’s hard work keeping up with what you’re encountering. But if you record yourself and watch it back, the chances are you’ll spot one or two things you failed to notice while you were riding. Watch his vid, try it for yourself. Sorry dude, wasn’t looking to hijack your comments section 🤐

    Really good that was! I'd like to do this course and booked on one but then it was cancelled. You can learn so much from these courses and also when your trying to catch up with the police bike I think it pushes your boundaries a bit which makes you a better rider. What's the score with overtaking and speed because he seemed to be a bit over the limit on overtakes. Is that acceptable in their eyes so to speak? Good vid.

  • @wsmv

    @wsmv

    3 жыл бұрын

    Not necessarily acceptable but a slight transgression if safe is deemed a minor glitch when you are concentrating on so much around you in a dangerous situation. They were real world bikers as well as police officers so understand occasionally we stray over the limit by a couple of mph when getting ahead of other road users . Thanks for watching mate 👍

    Great video, really enjoyed my day at BikeSafe when I did it and like you I would recommend it to anybody. Question: you were travelling pretty quickly at times on what I assume where national speed limit roads, was anything said about that at all ? I got the impression that we were expected to ‘respect’ the speed limits and it was mentioned to me that I was going a little to quick in 50 limits in my write up afterwards.

  • @wsmv

    @wsmv

    3 жыл бұрын

    Actually they try to teach you to 'make progress' safe speed within the limit was expected and a slight transgression wasn't punished. They were very professional but also understood that occasional trips over the national can be an accidental byproduct of passing someone as you are concentrating so much on everything else. 👍

    @@wsmv I appreciate while out with a police officer on a bike safe course he/she would know the locations of any speed van or a police officer with a hand held speed gun but doing > 70 on a National speed limit while overtaking is well over so you could end up with points and a fine. That being said I think motorcyclist should be given the option of a bike safe course if found speeding for the first time. I’m booked on one so quite looking forward to the day.

  • @wsmv

    @wsmv

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thats a really good idea, more relevant than the usual speeding courses, also they could promote the biker down courses which are free, and really open your eyes to the dangers. Doing 70 in nationals doesn't even register as speeding to many motorcyclists as long as they are not riding dangerously. 😎👍
