Bikepacking the Dutch coast Amsterdam to Alkmaar Ronde van Nederland - Folding Bike The Netherlands

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Wild camping in the dunes along the Dutch coast while on a cycle touring adventure on folding bikes.
The Dutch coast is a great place to ride a bike. With fantastic infrastructure for cycling, and generally flat topography the North sea coast is a fun and easy ride. Riding in the Netherlands is easy due to it being flat but also very well connected by cycle paths( fietspads) and trains. Getting provisions is simple as there are shops and supermarkets in each town and also bike shops to get your bike fixed if necessary. I would recommend cycling in the Netherlands to beginner cycle tours and advanced riders, you will enjoy riding in this fantastic cycling paradise!

You don't have to spend hundreds to get a folding bike that you can use for an international cycle tour. Second hand folding bikes can be excellent value if you are prepared to do any repairs yourself! Small repairs and replacing any worn out parts can be done with simple tools and these light weight bikes can be stored easily in a cupboard or under a bed.

It's easier to become a member of "vrienden op de fiets" (friends on bikes). There you can stay for € 22,50 per night incl. breakfast. Adresses are all over the Netherlands. No wildcamping (which is prohibited btw) and much less luggage. 😜

Absolutely. I once did 2.5 months in Japan alone. It’s especially hard when you can’t speak the local language!

Pretty sure the dutch tourism agency won't sponsor people who camp in the wild as it is illegal. However there are designated spots where you are allowed to do some free camping.

Thanks for your posting. I've enjoyed watching! Just inquiries. May I know your folding bike brand? Tern? When I watched your rear packing style, I guessed your heel might touch the bags on the rear rack. Was it okay? Thanks.

Heel sometimes touches, no big deal not enough to worry. This bike is “sonar” Chinese made, I got 2 second hand for 40$ nzd. There’s lots more videos here on the channel showing different folding bikes including tern d8 link

That's looks nice and adventurous. As a Dutchman I appreciate this nice promotion. Except I see you camp in the wild/dunes. I think it is not allowed in Holland. You have to look for a camping.

You live in a very nice country! Plenty of good camping sites are available in the Netherlands most of the websites and information about places are in Dutch however it has been possible to find great (legal) campings along the cycle trails with wifi and lovely surroundings!

Sad you missed out on Dutch thick pea soup (Erwtesoep) with a chunk of floating bacon and rye bread on the side. And their smoked herring as well. BTW--- a tip for cold weather sleep w. yr. girlfriend---sleep on right side head to foot with top leg over. The radiated heat from chest area gets trapped between the sleepers instead of escaping out one side. One or both sleeping bags are unzipped down to the foot part and spread out on top. Hope that makes sense.

Good tip to keep warm! I had the pea soup, very good and the herring I’ve eaten before so tasty. I like Dutch food very much especially the salads

Smoked herring? What’s that? I am native. We have smoked eels though. Herrings are fermented in The Netherlands, not smoked.
