Bikepacking from Germany to Denmark over the Danish islands

Denmark and Germany have extensive networks of bike routes and it is easy to travel between the countries. From Kiel in northern Germany it is about 500 km to Copenhagen depending on the rout chosen. A scenic route goes over the Danish islands Als, Ærø, Langeland, Lolland, Falster, Bogø, Møn and Nyord to Sjælland. It is signposted as Østersøruten (Baltic Sea Cycle Route) and partly coincides with Eurovelo 7 and 10. It is flat cycling on paved and unpaved roads, mainly on bike lanes or small countryside roads. There are several ferries along the way, and also train connections Kiel-Flensburg on the German side, and from Nykøbing on Falster in Denmark.

We're brits retired and living in Burgundy, France and always looking for new places for cycle touring. This looks wonderful and two pluses are that's it's flat and also we'll get to hear the charming Danish accent! Love the music...makes me want to grab my stuff and head up north on my bike...but guess that will have to wait till another year. Time to learn a few Danish phrases....keep on making the videos!

Thanks for your positive words! It’s nice you want to learn some Danish, but you will easily get by with English. Good luck with your touring!

Hello. Good trip. I'm from Ukraine. Now living in Eckernförde. I think about a same trip. Please 🙏, give me a gpx trek, if you have. Where you sleep in expansive Denmark? Camping, hotels?!)

Hi! If you buy the Bikeline guidebook you get the gpx for free (www.esterbauer.com/bikeline/ostsee-radweg-daenemark/) It’s difficult to find inexpensive accomodation, so camping is then the best bet. Also some B&B, like the one in the link, are relative affordable. Have a good trip!

I understand that your message is 2 years old. But can understand from the video that there are overnight stays at Bed and breakfast. Try searching on google for a specific area. I know it's expensive in Denmark because I live here. The cheapest form of accommodation is camping and you do not need to book in advance. Otherwise, you must cycle to the next campsite. Requires a tent but can be had at reasonable prices, lightweight tent.
