No-Go Zones - Khayelitsha, South Africa: • No-Go Zones | Khayelit...
In this exposé cameras are given exclusive access to this dangerous world. Filmed undercover, the gangs speak about what motivates them and the lengths they'll go to in order to evade capture. On the other side of the story, the film follows the Met’s specialist task force ‘Operation Venice’, witnessing new and evolving police methods such as ‘controlled tactical contact’, where the police car knocks the perpetrator off their bike to stop the chase. In a further attempt to stop these crimes, vigilante groups have also stepped into the fray to scare the gangs off - but are they a help or a hindrance to the police?
Through a mixture of first hand, self-shot testimony, crew-led actuality, archive and police footage, Bike Gangs: The Hunters and the Hunted offers a 360 degree look at the issue of moped-enabled crime, revealing just how far-reaching this new crime wave has become.

Mother of Brad who died at 14 thinks that if she would have kept him home 5 minutes longer he would still be alive . No , he needed to be taught right from wrong . But that would take more than 5 minutes !
The real crime here is that they call mopeds and scooters, 'bikes'.

The abuse of what is perceived to be “British society” is widespread. The police, although not perfect, have a very difficult job. I’m glad I don’t have a police force like that found in Brazil or SA (my GF is Brazilian and says you can not trust them, certainly not the local police) but the Met need to be allowed to actually police. There is no place for racism and I can only imagine what it’s like to be stopped every time you go out but then ‘stop and search’ is effective and I’d argue if you are deliberately hiding your face and acting in a certain way perhaps you attract attention to yourself. A few truths about where the crime comes from, although uncomfortable or difficult, is more honest. Naturally the political animal wants votes and that means kerbing the Met powers and making them the enemy. A crazy world which is why I plan to leave for another country, contribute almost nothing of my income to the UK and let it deal with the changes it voted for.

Great documentary! I really enjoyed it, thank you
Working mostly alone trying to expose lots of individuals is very unwise. He said at the end that it's too late to back down, and I just can't believe he wants to continue living like this. They can fail and fail and fail all day long, yet he can't afford to fail or his life is very much on the line. Pick your battles in life because you definitely cannot win them all.
You got to be really poor to do that kind of stuff on a scooter. Stealing laptop on a scooter this is crackhead low level crime .
Wow these thugs are fast Great warning for tourists! Interesting facts I never had a clue about. Yeah for the vigilantes! Keep them safe. To have to wear a stab proof vest is scary. Put gps locators on the bikes? Thanks for this documentary! Eye opening

they did say in the documentary that theif park the bike to test if it gets tracked, so im not sure if thats a solution, its hard to be safe against a grinder on battery imagine if someone could build in a finger-reader in handle and it can only start/move if it read the correct one
wow, Props to Omar for doing what needs to be done. People need to realise that communities in threat need to come together, and do what needs to be done to pass the message that certain behaviours aren't tolerated, to restore the way of life.
Respect people for stepping up to the gangs. No one got time for that BS. They refused to be a victim. Thugs, useless maggots going to get their day. I know they say the force is thinned, but they need more patrols using bikes. I am sure it is not feasible with the budget or manpower, but something has to change. Real man.

I’m interested to know what happens in the court system once the thieves are caught. Do they get a slap on the wrist and let go? Or is there appropriate consequences? Deterrents?

so its mopeds against motorcycles
This Omar guy is not very smart for showing his face on camera. Anonymity is your friend when you are trying to do what he is. Also not carrying something to defend himself with is very dumb also. If you are not prepared to do whatever is necessary to stop these thieves, then it is just going to continue.
totally ineffective and bad police. some very decent ordinary people doing their jobs for em. broken country
are the cops lacking in resources or what?
Police: we don’t want to hurt bike thieves when in pursuit. Bike thieves: we will hurt anyone whether intentional and unintentional. Hate how apologetic police is when they are trying to stop thieves. Just the idea of potentially getting hurt, would stop a lot of thieves.

I find it extremely disrespectful from people here in the comments to claim that Brad's criminality and death were solely due to the poor upbringing by his family. As viewers, we know absolutely nothing about the background of Brad's behavior, nor how he was raised and grew up. It is clear that for many individuals, their upbringing is related to them becoming criminals, while the environment in which one grows up likely has just as much, if not more, impact on such a development. Nevertheless, one cannot automatically assume that in every such situation, the upbringing and family environment are to blame. To claim this when considering a specific case, without having any solid information about the situation, is similar to making a remote diagnosis over the internet and is completely useless, inappropriate, and unfair to the family. If anything, one can speak about the general situation when making statements about a broad spectrum of people, but focusing on Brad in this case and making such claims only shows unconsidered and unfounded thinking.

If the government's not going to protect the people, then the people need to rise up and protect themselves. It is quite obvious that the police aren't doing enough to deter the thieves. Obviously, the reporting doesn't do any good.

Just a reminder half of the bikes showed in the video are infact not mopeds and most of the clips of "joyriding" are of people joyriding their own supermotos/dirtbikes not stolen bikes. Nobody leaves a ktm dirtbike on the street to be stolen since riding that on the street is already illegeal
