Gord Kluzak was the first overall pick in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft, selected by the Boston Bruins, and spent his entire NHL career with the Boston Bruins. He was hyped as a potential franchise cornerstone defenseman but is ultimately remembered for his unfulfilled potential due to his chronic Knee injuries. I think it would be unfair to call him a bust. The Bruins wanted a big partner for Ray Bourque and they got it. Bourque thanked Kluzak when accepting his Norris Trophies. It was just injuries that did him in.
The man had 11 surgeries on his left knee. Coming back to play hockey after just one takes the heart of a lion.
Kliuzak was not even close to being a bust. he had knees. when he player he was a good solid NHL Defenseman. in 1987-1988, Kluzak was health and he played with Ray Bourque, and they were one of the top pairs in the league. they made it all the way to the Finals.
Can't call him a bust unless you want to say that the team busted a draft pick on someone with chronic knee problems that perhaps they should have seen but even there it's kind of iffy that you could predict that when many players in all sports have early on surgeries but then go on the have successful careers.
