I had to live in both worlds. 2017 RS DD and 2005 FXT fully STI swapped on e85. The focus is amazing, and I love it, but I can't tear my self away from my heart which lives with my XT.

Both great cars and great owners who have their priorities right. I have owned STI hatchbacks and currently own 2017 RS hatchback. I miss the STI hatchback but also love driving the RS. If Subaru would bring back the STI hatchback I could see myself giving it a go again. Thanks for the video guys!

Would recommend you get the front strut tower bar to enable the car to handle the extra HP, as well as the rear suspension link and arm packages; they are extras for WRX STIs, but they come as standard on the S208, probably the same with the S209.

Sucks that Cali is so strict with their laws. Focus rs has a loud exhaust from factory lol. New veloster N is the same with all the pops and crackles. I prefer the rs if I was were to choose.

For the guys saying the RS exhaust sounds bad,it was changed i tell you,this isn't the stock exhaust and i agree it sound like crap vs stock..

Thanks for your video Why did they make the power band like a Fiesta ST...? Thought that was the trade off of a small turbo, I thought it would work like big turbos work and just keep pulling all the way to redline.. more fun than low down torque but then it's less usable so I guess it makes sense really....

I run a GC8 Impreza (modified and owned since 2002) and a Focus RS. Despite the Impreza being 16 years older than the RS it's still a hoot to drive and quicker in a straight line than my Stage 1 RS. If the latest STi was more tuneable and Open Source tuning was possible I'd be out of the RS and into an STi in a heartbeat.

Liked the video alot. Super nice production quality. One thing i was curious about for the STI. Why put all the money in upgrades, and not do the block?

Used to own subarus. Guy went through two engines not because of tuners but cause of driver use. I got (oem) 200k mile is300 2jz na-t, conservative tune 300whp with basic maintenance refresh.

Beautiful Focus RS and Subaru

Focus Rs Is A Sick car but man the STI looks great, interior is nice, spacious. After all the street races etc I've been to. Wrx's & Sti's are some of the best sounding cars....Would love to own one some day..subarus are really safe as well...I've only driven a 2014 regular impreza hatchback, would like 2 experience a wrx or sti 🙂

Me too. its nice and quiet, real throaty. I also have a decat pipe on mine and it still sounds quiet stock when cruising, no drone whatsoever

Loved the video, I'm a fan of the rs but the exhaust note is really not good, my st180 with the moutune 230 kit on it sounds better

Great quality contend Marcus, you are now putting out some of the best quality on KZread. As an Sti owner, I agree with your conclusions too. Although, I like the basic layout of Sti interior, the plastics are pretty nasty, but then other than the seats, in the RS the interior looks very low rent. Golf R kills them both of interior quality but, that car doesn't excite me one bit.

That was effectively my take. Absolutely spectacular interior that puts others in its relative class to shame, but not quite a comparable degree of driving excitement.

I think he’s good to go keepin it at around 400 or less. Like he said it’s detuned because of the internals but he’s got the setup for over 600. I’m guessin eventually he’ll go forges soon enough.

With those mods, I feel like the engines reliability/longevity will come down to how aggressively the car is driven. If the owner put-puts around in it, I’m sure it will last... If he’s redlining that’s thing and boosting it up often, who knows. Both my WRX and now STi have been pretty unforgiving

Aaron C. Anyone who buys a WRX or STI to build and not do Subaru shit in it including launches and driving hard bought the wrong car I don’t get it. STI is to hoon not to make 400 hp to sit at 5% throttle and hard park it

The only bad thing about modern STIs and WRXs is the lack of flared fenders. I have the same complaint about the RS. I love my flared fenders on my 2011 WRX. I get compliments on the car almost every day, which is nice too.

It's absolutely amazing how much more aggressive aftermarket flared fenders makes the current WRX/STI look...the whole car just looks meaner. This from the factory would have definitely made the car look like a much sportier total package.

So glad here in England we had the MK2 focus, with the T5 Volvo engine. Sounds SOOO much better then that duck! 😂

Both cars a awesome. I own both and there great cars. If i had to choose it would be the sti no question.

Skyler Sommer lol ever heard a Saab 9-5 loudest stock turbo I’ve ever heard with a simple intake delete you can hear it legitimately a parking lot away.

Even though the RS exhaust sounds horrible, the dive planes on the STI are installed backwards, which is also horrible.

Truly would be super epic and nautical to go on quick canyon runs and races at night with these cars.. ughh drifting in the wintery fresh snow of the Cali Mountains would be so so siiickk

What kind of exhaust is on the RS in this video? Isn't it Borla S type catback ? It actually sounds sensational inside the car as well as outside. I have the stock exhaust on my 2017 RS but rear seats and all carpeting removed from the rear side of the car and the noise with the stock exhaust is much louder now. I cannot imagine how loud would it be inside if I swapped stock exhaust for the one in this video ❤ Update: The exhaust on this RS is a perfect match for this car. Would you list your mods on the car? Especially the exhaust? Very inspiring video. Good placement of front license plate - haven't thought of it before - not many cars here in Europe have front license plate moved to the side of the car. Greetings from Czechia

With the right exhaust setup RS's can sound good.

RS and STI got its own people and preferences. But RS by far is an awesome machine and it's my top, top pick.

Im a Subaru fan, but both cars are good looking cara. I prefer the STI for much reasons, but the Focus if you see on person looks so good too.

Only thing i dont like about the RS is the sound..if you ever heard the dying cow in(me myself and irene) thats what it sound like.the popping gets old everytime u shift but besides that is great.

Sounds like a whoopee cushion track was spliced into all the RS shots.

The “new” California exhaust law isn’t really new. The 93 dB part has been in place since 2003 I believe. Just the lack of it being a fix it ticket has changed. My sti is turbo back, and all five of my cars I have had from 2003 to now all had load exhausts on them. Not once have I been pulled over for the exhaust being loud. I think this whole issue has been blow out of proportion.

@K L it is not a $1000 fine. The judge will probably dismiss the citation if you are 95dB or under. The actual fine is $193 plus court cost. The judge dismissed my exhaust citation.

Only thing it's missing is a sedan model but I hate the compact hatch shape, To each his own though atleast somebody is enjoying it.

What’s the wheel set up of the STI???

Was hoping for a side by side launch and 1/4 miles timing... disappointed ☹️. Sold, in the past my 2012 hatch STI stage 2, E85, riding Porsche now, all new world... I was keeping an eye on the RS but was wondering if it’s more reliable now (2018 2019), also which one is the fastest on those 2 models in this video... (could careless of the exhaust noise)... No offense but I smoke a guy with his STI, same setting and Turbo/exhaust noise as this video, pretty embarrassing making all those “performances noise” and stay behind... Anyway, which one should be the fastest in your opinion?

That guy has a lot of work done on that STI for only 400hp. Did he say stock short block assembly? That’s a lot of money on a rotated kit and supporting mods to install it on a stock block.

The sound of the RS is just not my thing. It doesn't revv very high and you can't hear the turbo enough(if at all)...quite a raspy exhaust on this one as well. Really like the look the owner went for though, with the front mods and black hood, it looks hella aggressive. I like how you can hear the turbo on the STI, and a flat 4 just sounds more exotic...so yeah, STI for me. Both very cool cars nonetheless, thx for sharing!
