It's a scummy practice. They just used their most loyal fanboys as beta testers. Not that they didn't deserve it. They proved that they will pay for a turd as long as Elon is the seller. They signed up for certain price and specs, they watched all those specs be reduced, then they overpaid for upgrades they never got lol. $39k with 500 mile range to $120k for 280 miles, no light bar, no autopilot, free powerwall (that requires Tesla be paid 6-20k to install) LMAO. It's hard because there are clear scams, but also clearly people that deserved what they got.
Dropping the Foundation $20k is not a $20k price drop. A $20k price drop means the $79.9k price dropping $20k. Everyone knew Foundation would end.

If you buy the cyber truck today and add on all the features that the foundation series has, it will add up to nearly $20,000. You are paying less and you are getting less if you buy a NON foundation series cyber truck
@mmeiselph7234

@@ron8979 I got my Foundation VIN available email over a month ago and ignored it, I'd rather wait for the kinks to be ironed out. Even at $80k the dual motor is $30k more than I expected, TBH. I was actually thinking about upgrading my dual motor to the $80k version before the price increase (with the assumption the most expensive would have longer range), but now I just will take less for 80k I guess, and get a std dual motor.
If you buy a cyber truck that is NON foundation series and you want to add all those things that foundation series has, it would cost $20,000. In other words, the cyber trucks are not getting cheaper. You’re paying less and you’re getting less. The $20,000 drop is not a true $20,000 drop. All it means is the new trucks being made moving forward will not have full self driving, the white seats, charging capability in the bed, mobile connector, and mini more upgrades.
A RWD LFP version would be nice to get the price down and just get more units on the road. Success breeds success, when more folks get used to seeing them more people will be willing to put out for the higher margin AWD versions. While I'm not a fan of the styling I have to take my hat off to Tesla for bringing this to production, it really is a feat of engineering once one understands what had to go into making a mass production stainless steel vehicle. Should help a lot of other automakers make the decision to bring their concept cars to production as halo cars.
Received an invite 3 weeks ago for a Foundation series, but I’m holding out. I was in for a dual motor at $50k. I’ll [grudgingly] accept $80k. $100k? Hell no.
I would gladly take a LFP Cybertruck, but I actually need a 4WD version. If the Dual motor also gets LFP then that would be perfect. LFP should be charged to 100% once a month for calibration reasons, I guess that is considered regularly, even LFP degrades if charged to 100% daily. Charging to 90% should be just fine though.

Does it take less time to charge the 340 range battery to 80% (272 miles), compared to the 250 mile LFP battery pack to 100%? If so, I'd rather have the quicker-charging 272 mile range with the option to charge 100% to 340 mile range.
Advantage: it is delivered in it’s own box.
Would like to pick battery as an option. The 500 mile range was key for my use. A 36% miss is way outside the normal 10%.

I've had an order on the Cybertruck since 2019, dual motor and was offered the Foundation Series a few weeks ago, which I turned down due to high price. I need dual motor due to where I live and the winter weather and rough roads. I would love LFP batteries for the dual motor as range is also an issue due to our remote location and our long winters (5-6 months). Thanks for covering this topic.
Sure, the price is a factor. However the price may be excusable. The change in specs is the deal breaker for me. A 35% reduction in range on the tri-motor? That's a non-starter.

I think you can add the all terrain tires and premium connectivity to the Foundation Series list. Not sure what they would charge for the tires but the premium connectivity is worth $800 if you keep the truck for 8 years.
I wouldn't say its a huge "price drop" but more so offering a base version without options; likely no FSD, no white, no AT wheels/tires, no accessories, and no $2500 credit additional for PowerShare (or shop) stuff. It may quality for the federal tax credit if sticks around though too if get a base version.

need to start under 40k then, we can start talking.
I'm not an early adopter, so I'm waiting a year or two for the prices to come down and the bugs to get worked out. I hope the range extender will be able to be rented on a monthly basis, so when I go on vacation and tow a travel trailer, I can just rent the extra range. I also hope the range extender will be very difficult to steal. Maybe even requiring dealer install / removal, and GPS tracking.
I am waiting for the additional batteries to get close to 500 miles of range. Dropping the foundation makes the range extension feasible.
I am not going to take delivery of my cyber truck because of the current pricing. When I put down my deposit I was budgeting 50K. IMHO it's not worth much more than that.

I am so pissed at Tesla for doing this with the Cyber truck I am now looking into a Rivian - never thought I would. Want to buy some of my Tesla stock.
I have a beast reservation, and I would rather see the range specs closer to the original +500 miles it was supposed to be. I am assuming there are weight issues with that at the moment. With the improvements we are seeing in battery tech I have some hope that by the time my reservation comes up (4-5 years by my guess) that it is closer to that. If towing range is 1/3 of total range it really does need to get to that +500 miles to be practical in that application. 600 miles would be better to get to that 3 hrs of highway driving before charging.
Wish I got a Foundation series. It's a good deal since you get FSD and the wall connectors. Probably only pay about $5000 to be one of the first which is pretty amazing.
I placed my reservation based on the tri-motor version having a range of 500+ miles, 301 miles is unacceptable for me.
I would say everyone would want great range.

My reservation email came up LAST WEEK. My place in line was 845k. No one is buying. WAAAAYYYYY over priced for the range/ features compared to what was promised 5 years ago. Check out prices for the cyber truck on Tesla's website they don't yet list the federal rebate in their calculations for possible savings (maybe indicating your statement will continue to be factual). I am guessing if one pays for full self driving the all drive wheel model will no longer qualify for a rebate. Who knows maybe LFP batteries will soon be made in the USA and those vehicles will qualify for a rebate.
They can't afford to knock $20k off these garbage trucks.
The $7500 problem if the rear wheel Cybertruck uses LFP is it will no longer qualify for the tax credit discount so we would end up spending 60,000 for a single motor version or if you can swing it, you can spend 72 500 for the much better dual motor.

Thanks for the well done video! I am excited about eventually getting the dual motor Cybertruck I reserved in 2021. I expect it to be a while. An LFP battery is a possibility for the lowest model, but the rub is imported LFP batteries seem to invalidate any federal rebate for Teslas. Buyers of the RWD Cybertruck will be price sensitive to start with so a foreign LFP battery with no federal rebate is going to mostly drive these potential buyers away or drive them to the dual motor unit. The battery "trick" for Tesla is to somehow transform its current CATL tooling agreement to build LFP batteries in the USA for Megapaks into a tooling agreement with CATL to build Shenxing Plus batteries in the USA for vehicles. If Tesla can do that, 4680 batteries are toast. 4680 cells have not really lived up to their original promise and are sort of "meh" batteries. OMG. An 83 KWH battery in a pickup? That would be pure garbage. 83 KWH is like having an 8.3 gallon gas tank. Who wants a pickup with an 8.3 gallon gas tank? Towing range would be like 70 miles. A 2wd cybertruck with 130 KWH LFP battery? Sure sign me up. But 83 KWh? No. Just no.

Most people don't care about neck-snapping 0-60 MPH acceleration. The RWD with 123 kWh battery is what most people will want for price/range.

50% of men under 40 want neck snapping acceleration. It is a real market of about 25% of buyers. Edit: make that 12.5% rather.

Will someone finally make a truck for work, not just for show-off, with a 6.5-foot loading space?
@dvader3263

Any pickup truck can be used for work, as work trucks are driven regionally, around workers homes. Work truck aren't driving cross country all day. Working makes money. Driving and towing all day doesn't make money. A 6 foot bed functions about as well as a 6.5 foot bed. 6 inches isn't a big deal. Ask anyone.

There’s no way that a 2wd cybertruck with AS tires is going to get 332 wh/mi. I have a model S with one of the trip odometers showing 80,000 miles and an average of 370 wh/mi. Yeah, that is mostly freeway driving at 75-80 mph, but that is real world driving. That number is worse in winter and better in summer, but that is the average. I’m betting the cybertruck is averaging more like 450-500 wh/mi with no cargo or towing load at freeway speeds, which is what the F150 gets. Let’s keep it real: a model 3 LR with 82 KWh gets 220 miles of range at freeway speeds. A cybertruck with that size battery is going to get 160 miles of freeway range with no cargo.

Agree. I think Tesla should offer the RWD with the big battery (123 kWh). Most folks don't need the neck-snapping 0-60 MPH acceleration of a dual or tri-motor. Range is king and RWD w/123k kWh would offer the best range.
I wouldn't take being free and no charging cost
Yeah this is not news ... The initial foundation run is about over so the extra 20k will be removed . 😂😂😂 Duh wee all know that.. 🙄
Stupid elon pricing models. My 2 year old Model Y now sells for $25,000 less than what I paid for mine. Who with a working brain wants to buy a car where the manufacturer is out to screw you? I was # 1,3xx,xxx in line to buy a Cybertruck and last week Tesla said I was now 1st in line to buy one the Cybertruck is a monumental flop - only 8,000 have been sold and elon has no choice but to sell the stainless steel toaster for a loss and keep lowering the price until he stops making them
@alphaomega9650

Bro you had to know you were overpaying. Anyone who bought any car in 2020-2023 overpaid for their cars because everyone was supply constrained. All lots were empty. When supply is lot prices get heavily inflated and that’s where you bought your car. Just a poor choice my friend. I never would have bought a model Y at 60k+ just way overpriced

Elon said they wanted to get the prices down, did you not know that years ago? EV cars are getting cheaper and better because its a growing tech, this is how tech works...
