Learned more about saltwater fly fishing from this than a walk on course at bean. Thanks so much.

Great images.I'll watch this over and over whenever it snows in Connecticut. I envy the extensive sandy beaches of LI. I fish Rhode Island and CT from shore lots of rocks. Fish from boats but a surf caught fish is... more delicious. Please do more films. Also, diehard fly guys should get a spin set up for those days when the fish are more than 70 feet out. A wood casting egg and a fly is toxic!

What time of year is this? Fantastic instruction about the subtleties of presentation. Can be applied to spin fishing as well, especially when using a teaser.

Really great video and drone shots only enhance it. I think I know the area and was there today with my buddy. No birds, no fish, nothing but wind and saw only two guys fishing with no results. Do you use a 30lb. straight mono leader or a tapered one?
@SouthForkSalt

thanks John. feels fishy out here. there are definitely not many people fishing hard. I'm generally throwing lines with short, compact heads in the salt. I'll do about a six foot leader with that, straight. If it's clear water and I want to present delicately, I would tie in another thinner section of leader at most 2/3 the length of the first line. I'm seldom worried about a delicate presentation in my fishing conditions though. A full moon night with flat, glassy surf - then I'd use a tapered leader and cast lightly.

@@SouthForkSalt Is that rio outbound short or airflo Sniper your using? im currently using a 9wt with intermediate line and having a hell of a time getting the fly infront of me far enough before the waves start pushing it back towards me. you think a compact head line would help with that?

Great vid. How & where do you get drive on permits. Is only 1 needed for the whole South Shore? Thanks in advance for input.
@SouthForkSalt

there's different permits for different beaches. state parks require one, county parks require a different one, and then towns usually require their own if they allow beach driving.

Awesome video! Are you using sink tip or intermediate line?
@SouthForkSalt
4 жыл бұрын
thanks! either of those would be ideal for fishing heavier currents, but I'm just using a floating line here. I'm throwing a lead-eye clouser, and throwing a quick mend or two for extra depth if needed. Luckily the bass came in close sometimes and fed close to the surface.
