Don't listen to people's opinions too much. Like you said it's your hike and you're going to do it the way you want to. Personally I don't like staying at hostels or shelters because I like to be away from people. Your videos are inspirational and well-edited.

Walking 8 hours a day, day after day is hard no matter who you are. Whether you go 8 miles or 32 miles, whether you sleep in a tent on in a bed, it’s tough. People hike/backpack for different reasons and need to lay off those who have a different reason than their own. Happy trails Taylor!

Paraphrasing Teddy Roosevelt…It is not the critic who counts. The credit belongs to the person who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat…Who strives valiantly with great enthusiasm and great devotion… while daring greatly…to achieve success so your place will never be with the cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat. You’re a doer! An inspiration! I applaud your efforts!

Ditto what Taylor said about hiking 20+ mile days. The most I ever hiked in one day was just over 20 miles, starting just before sunrise and ending just after sunset during the summer. Afterwards, it was one of the most painful and exhausted moments I have experienced in my entire life. Hikers that do 20+ miles day after day on the trail must be in peak physical condition to achieve that, something most people will never experience. Taylor is a humble champ!

I consider 10 miles a "Big day" as someone who hikes at least twice a week. Can't believe people are commenting "It must be easy" if you can do it. Another factor making it tougher is multiple days in a row make your old injuries start to creep back sometimes.

You make it look easy because of your outlook and attitude. Even your "rants" as you called it are seemingly positive. Realize the only thing we see is what is in the videos, you can be down or mad or exhausted but we don't see it. Your consistently cheery nature is a major reason I watch. You are an example and a wonderful break from the poopy world filled with poopy people. Keep making it "look easy" because it's who you are.

I'm in the UK. I love the idea of doing the AT with all the beautiful scenery. I love long distance running and hiking. Compared to what I hike it looks really tough - narrow and rocky paths with sheer drops are my biggest nightmare. I think I'll be testing it in a couple of years with a holiday to do a section hike.

You are an amazing person and hiker. Your hike 2 years ago was wonderful and helped me personally..just watching during co19 gave me something to look forward to each evening. At that time, I turned off the TV and started watching utube in the evenings. You are very grounded and determined far above your age. You have the emotional and physical aspects of the trail straight in your head. You are educated to the ways of hiking and I appreciate your positiveness. This has to be difficult, but you have it together. There will always be those who support others in their endeavors, and those who would tear us down. Choose joy. Your life will be better with your positive mindset, knowledge and work ethic!! You remind me of my own 43 year old daughter. Very sure of herself and determined...and very successful as a mom and in her career. Great qualities in any person. Thank you for sharing your hike.

I just came across your channel. I used to live at the ski/golf resort, Wolf Laurel, by Big Bald Mountain (mid 1980s to mid 1990s) and often went up to Big Bald. I sure miss the place. Even hiked about 4 miles (from Big Bald down to Street Gap) when early in my pregnancy! At least it was downhill, lol. They didn't have the Erwin hostel or the one by Sam's Gap back then. You are lucky to have those for a break. Good luck on your hike to Maine!

What a beautiful view from the bald! Taylor this is your hike, do it on your terms. In the end that’s what will make this time on the trail special to you. I couldn’t do it with my medical issues, I’d be totally sucking air & falling off the side of mountains😂😂. I’m living a dream I’ve always had, hiking the AT, through you! So thanks for documenting your adventures. I’m kinda worried about your insole that has gone bad. I hope that it doesn’t effect the way your foot falls especially going downhill. Everyone, I can attest to the fact that hiking the AT is probably one of the hardest things you will ever do. I feel it is proportional to your age. If you are in your 20's, it will not seem that bad but if you are in your 60's, it will seem hard as heck. Most Vloggers only vlog on level sections or downhill sections giving the impression that the AT is pretty flat and a nice trail but a huge portion of the AT is UPHILL so you will be out of breath a lot of the time. It also has tons of rocks and roots that will bug the crap out of you so you learn to appreciate the "flat" parts of the trail. John

I've tried a bunch of different inserts, I'm flat footed and use Altra's. I pull the inserts that the Altra's come with and use Dr. Scholl's inserts, I have found the Work, standing all day ones to be the best for me. I hope this helps. The funny thing is Dr. Scholl's are the least expensive inserts of all the ones that I have tried and they work the best for me. They hold up for 20+ mile days on trail without issue.
