​@@zeohblitz6969 Even the PS3 has theme. My personal favorite are the ones that alternate between different pictures. For example, my favorite theme was FEAR 2 Project Alma.

Remember when ps4 would have a homepage feed that would tell you what games and trophies friends are playing/earning? Miss that.

I love that they included a friends activity tab! The ps5 felt like I was completely disconnected from my friends when playing singleplayer. I loved it when you could see trophies and what people were playing on ps4

You can hide them from others through the hidden games tab, although a lot of betas or demos don't specify if it a demo or not instead it'll just be a duplicate of the base games icon. Just guess work between them.

@@Henkibojj All trophies are synced to your account, and they're all required to have artwork etc so they will always show legacy consoles there, there's no reason to not do that.

@@liamsz Yes you can see trophies earned on older platforms but it won't show in the activity. You actually can't even see if someone is online/playing a game on PS3/PSV while using the app/PS4/PS5 and that was a deliberate choice by Sony PlayStation. Apparently in some games that have that feature where you see what your friends are playing it still shows there. Also, I can't see the trophies I earned on the PS5 on my PS3/PSV. Such a shame imo, much can be done to be improved.

I wish this was available outside of the USA

Agreed. I don't use the explore tab at all. my PS5 starts and I choose my game or app and I go. Sony truly doesn't understand ui. They've always been criticized by it's users. You don't hear people complain their iphone ui is crap.

Wish they bring back folders. Could custom the folder background that can could go around having the game art pop. And friendlist can be organized with the games you meet them in.

some of the coices Sony makes when it comes to the PS5 UI are so weird, but this is a step on the right direction We just need more customization, the home screen/game select screen is almost perfect imo

100% agree, just more customisation is what we need. I personally enjoy having the games take up the background, but there should be an option to have your own custom backgrounds that override game backgrounds. I don’t see what the issue would be.

True about the weirdness but for custimization they only have so much overhead to allow for it; meaning the more custimizable the more resources it takes to run the OS.

We NEED THEMES

i think what playstation can do for themes is letting you choose different themes for each game, like how theres multiple Persona 5 themes on PS4, what if you can choose to have one of those in the background for Persona 5, or even the different themes for Nier and Last of Us, this way we get themes back and we dont really have to be limited to only the game art being the background.

Still waiting for a folder section for the home screen. PS4 had it, and it was amazing. Could organize all my installed games.

I really like the console storage widget in particular. Good addition as I save a ton of video clips so my storage is constantly depleting.

this is a nice update also for anyone wanting true custom backgrounds i have an idea open the internet tab on ps5 & search up the image you want & take a screenshot & then simply use it on the ps5 background thing

It is downright INSANE that it's taken them NINE whole firmware updates to finale update this part of the interface and actually include some themes here! It may be for the Explore section only but it's at least SOMETHING. And i thought nintendo was bad at implementing more wanted features to their system sooner.

9 updates and four years and we dont even have google. Media remote was the biggest con ever only use is so my wife can force close my game when im playing by pressing an app. Personally i could give a damn about exclusives because they suck. give me the capability of using the hardware once its being phased out we dont need a nanny and we most certainly dont need them focusing on games other people are making do youre job sony make the console better.

When does this come out???

Shame it’s only for the US. Hopefully it comes to other regions

Glad to see they are trying to improve it. Honestly, I think I'd be happy if they gave you an option to revamp it to look like either the XMB (PS3) , or PS4 UIs. The XMB was very stylish and compact. That, with the option to alphabetize your folders (I still can't believe we never got that option!), would be ideal.

We can still get dynamic themes I believe. The game backgrounds don’t have to be there at all if a theme is equipped.

Really like the new explore tab, and I personally like this new implementation of wallpapers.

I’m excited for the UI update really like the explore tab and now I’m able to see my storage space without checking settings just to glance. Also I wish the backgrounds work completely with the whole UI instead of the explore tab only.

This is cool! I miss when PlayStation had these big UI updates. I remember doing a survey recently with the asking about the live video sections. I told them it would be cool to watch live streams categorized by game and not random like it is now. Hopefully they add that.

Weeeeee need themes plus everytime you highlight your game that still pops up with its 🎶 🎵 music😊

The only thing I want is for the resume activity background to go away.

They need to launch the explore tab worldwide and bring back friends activity from ps4

A good thing they could do is while in the explore section you could press a combination of buttons and show the background only on its own, like a live wallpaper or something like that. Let’s say by just pressing L3 and R3 at the same time. Good vid.

You use the explore tab? My friends, the commenters and myself think this is a useless addition. The explore tab should have been removed and reorganized. They put background options on the explore tab because people don't use it and they want their money back from development of the feature. Plus, it's only in merica, so most aren't aware of it, let alone want it.

Tranquil Stream Dynamic Theme for PS3/PS4 was one of my favorites.

Your custom background should be possible to create by just exploring your USB stick's pictures, and making a screenshot of the one you like. That screenshot should appear in the Other folder, which then should be available for you to pick in the Explore customization. Pin this if it works; I don't have the Explore tab to experiment with.

@@DahBananaCannon What practice? PS4 had both custom backgrounds and themes, though the themes had to be licensed instead of custom. For PS5 we can't even insert a screenshot we made from games we bought ourselves.

Man the Uncharted 4 dynamic wallpaper I had on the PS4 will never be beat imo

It only took half generation but finally at least some exchange for the background of the home screen instead of a static image. Sad that only works on the explore tab, but its something. BTW: little trick to use custom pics on the tab, just check a usb picture on your gallery, use the share button to take a screenshot and i guess that one will be on the internal storage.

We just want themes. Damn.

And the explore Tab is only available in the US. Wow

You could always open up a photo from your USB drive and then screenshot on your ps5. That would add it to your Media Center.

I can get trying to make the u.i different for a new machine but I loved the dynamic themes or even the stylish still ones with nice music, especially the PS2 throwback theme was so cool. Sony could have made so much money if they'd kept that concept, the unique scrolling and interaction sounds based on themes was such an underrated feature.

Obviously I want folders again, but another thing that always bugs me is when I'm navigating a massive list of games in the store, I'd love to be able to filter out games I already own.

I love having a static storage info tab! Now… how about some damn folders on the home screen!

I miss having my own custom themes with music. Wish they would’ve kept that going.

More of our downloaded games on the home screen would be cool so we can easily start them. Maybe have two rows of games instead of one? It's a pain if you have too many and some stay hidden until you start play them.

Nice feature to return👌 they sure know how to slowly add "themes" lol surely bring over themes from ps4 for ui purposes and have option that overrights the games general background considering some dont even have its own music etc.

This is exactly where I expected themes to apply. There and the settings menu etc. I don't expect them to override the game backgrounds when hovering over their tiles, nor do I want them to personally but I get it other ppl may want it. It's more like PS3 UI than PS4 themes that way

As far as I know, you can take screenshots from your USB files meaning that they will appear on your media gallery and therefore you can set them as background. Cool update!

I know, you can't use a screenshot or custom pic stored in a USB directly because the option is not there when you want to set your background. What you can do though, is to "re-screenshot" (sort of speak) a pic that is stored in the USB, whether its a game screenshot or a picture that you downloaded from the internet. When you do that, the screenshot that you just took will appear on your media gallery, which can now be set as the background. I hope I made myself clear now.

I’ve always liked the game updates.

Best way to get a custom screen shot ( i found so far) send a image message to a friend on ps from the ps app on your mobile device and go back to ps5 and screenshot that then set from media

At least we've got wallpapers in some capacity. Hoping we get more options for it in the future.

Ayee I sent them a few surveys to suggest some of these features. I also thought it would be cool to turn the PSN app into a gaming social media where people post pictures, videos, trophies on a timeline.

Stuff we need in future PlayStation updates 1. Being able to separate party chat audio from recordings when sharing them 2. Being able to use voice keyboard inside of games 3. Fix an annoying bug that suspends your game when trying to save a clip with a full storage, thus deleting your clip 4. Being able to record System UI 5. Explore tab in all regions 6. This is more of a visual thing but it would be cool to make the default selection in the quick menu to be on the home button rather than being on the far left 7. I'm not a storage expert but if it's possible to make video clips and screenshots to save on your m.2 SSD that would be helpful! 8. Letting more 3rd party services the ability to create media apps for the PlayStation 9. PlayStation Stars being in all regions 10. Being able to check for updates in the library tab, this is currently limited to games that are on the homescreen These were some of the most important things that the current state for the PS5 software need after owning the console since launch day. Let me know if there are more options you'd like to see added in the replies and I'll add them to the list

4 will never happen. people will see your friend list and thats exposing them when they dont want too and can get harrassed and sony does not want to deal with that, plus any other sensitive info you might accidently expose that sony doesnt want the world to see even though the elgato and other capture cards records it all but sony can just but the blame on those instead of them.

Great news, I hope they can bring back communities which was the best way to find public parties for games u dont have friends to play with.

I really wanted the dynamic themes and it would’ve been seriously awesome if they can also add any purchasable theme to the store like the ps4 cause as for me I would possibly get the live ps2 blue spinning orbs or install it off the ps5 browser just like how ps3 do!
