Cool thing about Fox Squirrels they aren't skittish like regular squirrels. Came across one while out in the woods one day, he was laying stretched out on a tree branch with his legs draped over the side just chilling out. He was only about 15' feet up and never mover or flinched the closer I got, I got right up under him and he just looked down checking me out as I was checking him out. He as like "yeah and what do you want, can't you see I'm chilling?"

Aren't they cute. I have several in my yard I video. They are called Big Cypress Fox Squirrels & Sherman's Fox Squirrel. This one is a Sherman's. Which are more black. The Big Cypress is lighter the only difference is the color of coat. Mine hand feed too :) I am a bit squirrel crazy.. the one I see most I call Dinky. They get about 3 lbs.

Finally, after watching this video I am certain that the small squirrel like mammals I’ve been seeing on our golf course nearly every late afternoon/early evening are these. Are they protected? A developer is trying to purchase the golf course and build homes on it. If they are protected, proving they live here can only help us put a stop to the development. I love to watch them. They seem like such smart little animals. They’re always stopping and looking around on their hind legs. They remind me of prairie dogs or something the way they stand up and scan everything.

wow, i love its coloring and marking. it looks like a miniature black bear a little. i adopted an infant black squirrell for two days before he felt safe enough to go out on his own. it wouldnt leave my side and slept cuddled up in my armpit each night in my sleeping bag. then without hesitation, as i was biking past where he latched onto me the day he was so scared and looking for anyone to pick him up and keep him safe. he just flew out of my backpack and was gone in a flash. i feel so lucky to have had that exoerience and keep my hopes i get the chance to have a chance meeting with an abandend wolf pup, or even more special, a orphaned lynx or bobcat kitten. i think mutually benificial relationships are very special between humans and wildlife in a responsible manner. of coarse it is never safe to assume any animal is safe to interact with. wild or domesticated. not understanding your situation is a good way for problems to arise without warning.
