How am I just now seeing this? Amazing little piece of history. I raced at many little strips like this. Brings back a lot of great memories. Competition was tough. But we all helped each other. Everything was friendly and laid back. And yes, it was dangerous. We used what safety gear we could afford. Never worried about guardrails, (or lack of), poles, or trees. If you were a fan you could get as close as you wanted. We never realized how cool it was. Never thought it would be so different now.

I spent many weekends at this track and was even fortunate enough to get Big Daddy's autograph. He signed my pit pass since that was the only piece of paper i could find at the time, LOL. This sure does open up my memory bank. Thanks for sharing.

Wow! What a find! Great footage. I believe that is the same car Don used to win the 1984 U.S Nationals. When I attended my first race in 1986, Keith Craig had an alcohol funny car with the same paint scheme as the dragster had in this video.

M Marks how times and safety knowledge has changed. at that track, for the fuel cars you had a row of telephone poles or a full on forest to enjoy, and it appears all racers had a tractor to avoid at the top end,and how a 'full leathers and gloves" for bikes wasn't mandated (when in the UK it was a necessity even for run What you brungs from 78) I have no idea.

Great video. 4:00 Top Fuel running with wheels on the ground and no driver in the seat. No big rigs or 12 guys working on the car.

You'd have to ask Don. Malone? Swindahl? They both talked Don out of retirement at one point.
