    Asus has updated the warranty for their OLED gaming monitors to now include 2 years of panel burn-in coverage. This applies to the PG34WCDM, PG49WCD, PG27AQDM, PG48UQ, PG42UQ and upcoming models like the PG32UCDM. You'll see the change in the specification tab on Asus product page, so you can refer to that for warranty claims in the future

    Does anyone know how to get the audio through from the OLED panel and the audio channel output from my computer? I never had an issue outputting from an old 4k tv and getting the built in speakers too, but if I try on this panel it's just a pass through and does not give me both outputs, which is a shame, cause the built in speakers are pretty good.

    Pull back the praise by about half and, realistically, yes, HU does a great job. Did he mention the heat sink in this monitor that aims to reduce burn-in risk? Did he address RTINGS report of unacceptable input lag at 60fps? These monitor reviews sometimes run on an auto pilot of charts, graphs, and tech speak that we hear in every HU review. I’ve watched nearly every one and feel they could improve the context at times, especially if their review isn’t first to market. The RTINGS finding about input lag would be a deal breaker for many, especially as OLED doesn’t inherently have this issue. RTINGS believes it’s a processing issue it’s this monitor. Getting HU’s take on this claim is why I watched this video.

    I never have enough of these videos, because let's face it, primary interface is the monitor. It's the one most important piece of the whole setup. Pick whatever GPU you want, if screen is bad it's wasted money. Pick a great screen, and on your next update you'll benefit more from it.

A good monitor is essential. Hell, often a cheap TV can be better than some of the terrible budget monitors out there.

I honestly can say the OLED has better brightness and blacks but NOT by much! This monitor is great with my RTX4090! I don't plan on getting rid of the PG35VQ though as both have a time and place! I've been waiting months for this screen, finally got one. I've been using a 40" Samsung 4K TV for years, I like the form factor. TV was only 60hz, so having 120hz now is great. For me, when I turned down brightness the text got significantly better for regular PC use. Basically anywhere over 60 in the brightness setting is very usable for me, over 90 is too bright. For working at home, I can fit everything I want on the screen at once, and for gaming it's excellent for strategy/4X games that I play. Shooters are good, buy I know some people like smaller screens. RPGs and MMOs are immersive at this size. And it you want widescreen this panel can force it, with unlit black bars since it's OLED.

    I bought one of these day one. It is a beautiful monitor. I use it in my office. I also have a living room gaming PC that is hooked to my 65" LG C1 panel. Both are stunning. I really love the PG42UQ's array of inputs and also the heatsink on the back. I waited very impatiently for this monitor hoping it would live up to the hype. It delivers in spades. The only thing I don't like is the pixel-cleaning pop-up you get after 8 hours of use. I'm hoping someone figures out a way to disable that. Otherwise, this is easily the best monitor I've ever owned.

Like having 4 2.1 hdmi even tho I probably won’t ever use them all, sux no dp but all modern gpu seem to have hdmi 2.1 on them. Came from ASUS first 34” ultra wide with horrible light bleed and no hdr so it was a huge upgrade. I don’t miss ultra wide at all, lotta older games and some competitive don’t support it properly anyways. Love the glossy over the matte but I game in a basement with lights off usually. I do notice some of my razer chroma crap reflecting off it a bit in really black scenes. I have a really deep corner desk and this size is huge, I can’t believe I was considering the Aorus 48” oled when it was on sale for 600-700 a few weeks ago. I agree I wouldn’t go above 42”.

    I have had one since there were released. I really enjoy this monitor. I am looking forward to the next firmware update though to solve some issues. I chose this over the C2 for the matte finish - I use it as my daily driver/work monitor and I am in a well lit room so the shinier screen of the C2 would not be great for me personally. It still look fabulous. I also chose this for the Display Port input and the increased refresh rate. But Tim nails the differences pretty clearly here - and choose what fits you the best! Having owned this monitor for about a month now and using it 8 hours a day for my day job (software dev), I have to say it's been amazing, but Tim is right in that this is going to be very dependant on your preferences and what you value. Personally, the built in 4 port USB3 hub, uniform brightness mode, proper monitor sleep support, threaded camera mount and other features are things I value quite highly. However, again, Tim is spot on in that in many ways, this doesn't really fundamentally offer a vastly different experience to a C2, which can be had for a lot less money and is much easier to find. The firmware for this screen have also been pretty ropey so far, no single version has yet to nail everything at the same time but hopefully this will get ironed out pretty soon. I'm only using it at 60hz at the moment - waiting to upgrade my old 1080Ti, so I've only briefly tried HDR and 138hz, but I'm really looking forward to giving them a proper go...

    A great in depth review as always, but I've been wondering about the infinite contrast thing in your OLED reviews. Reflected light should be added to the emitted light when it comes to percieved black levels and most of us don't own a large dark room covered in vantablack so the contrast can't really be infinite. Jokes aside just surpassing the dynamic ratio limits of the human eye has much more reasonable viewing environment requirements, but they still can't always be met so saying OLEDs always look perfect in all viewing conditions is a bit of a stretch. Have you considered testing black levels in a reference home viewing environment (such as 200 lux of incident light as described by the ITU recomendation for BT 2020) which would also provide a quantitative measure of how black or how reflective the display screen is on top of the qualitative description regarding gloss, matte, anti-glare finish, etc. Of course contrast is more relevant for a movie watching experience than productivity and you'd want to use a more light controlled environment for that with a lower ambient brightness so testing in a room much darker than 200 lux could be a more realistic scenario for cases where it really matters. To simplify testing you could also just measure the % of reflected diffuse light for all monitors (OLED or not) powered off, then add that to the black levels as an optional figure of the contrast ratio we can expect in realistic scenarios. I think this would be a great addition to the range of tests, and would also give a better understanding of the contrast we can expect during the day. It might also become increasingly more relevant once emissive displays become more common and they could all claim infinite contrast ratios, while the real world percieved contrast can differ greatly depending on the display. Current microLED displays still require low densities to achieve good percievable black levels (alongside easier heat managment), and this could be a point of difference one we see competition between OLED and microLED displays on the consumer market.

    Great review. To me, the point of contention here is price. In most European countries, this monitor is around or above 1500€, while finind the LG C2 around 1000€ is not impossible. So, the price difference is so high, that you can basically buy a new GPU to get hdmi 2.1 with the price difference, and you should have a pretty modern gpu anyway to drive a 4k 120(+) hz display. If the price was closer, like 100€ of difference, it would be pretty compelling, especially if you have annoying reflections to deal with: angle adjustment stand and matte finish will make wonders in that case. But with such a big difference, it's a no go for me.

    I love the fact that the Asus has a matte screen coating. I don't care if it makes it look slightly better, the reflections from a glossy screen drive me crazy and it's not worth it to fight with light sources or only watch at certain times of day just for a slightly improved picture. Shame it costs so much more than what is practically an identical screen, though.

    Nice review. Been looking for a new monitor now that monitor sized, reasonable priced, OLED's are out. I've been using an old Dell Ultrasharp 3011 for years. It's been great, but long overdue for an upgrade. Problem is I can't commit. Both the Asus and LG have pros and cons and wish there was a monitor with the pro's from each. For instance, I wish the C2 had at least one display port; I'm not ready to upgrade to a new video card just for HDMI 2.1. I wish the Asus had a glossy screen. I'm use to a matte screen, so probably not an issue, but would love to try the glass. I love how Asus has a USB hub with a webcam connection on top, but I also love how the C2 has a built in OTA tuner so you can use it as a TV or use the smart apps for entertainment options. The Asus is about 300+ more expensive. If it drops to the same price as the C2, this will really become a harder decision. Sony also has a tempting option with the A90K I'm also considering, but it also lacks a display port. ... Maybe I'll wait and see if one of manufactures can add the pro's of one or the other in the next releases. Or maybe it's best to consider an QLED or even wait for MicroLED, but that could be many years away. Hard saved dollar and it's a struggle trying to commit to one of the options. Would love to figure it out before the holiday sales wipes out stock. ... I'd love to see a reviewer compare side to side the PQ42UQ, 42LGC2, and Sony 42 A90K and lock in an opinion of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

    It seems that blue phosphorescent OLEDs are the key to increasing brightness and stability to negate the one primary disadvantage of current OLED technology. Also, if RGB OLEDs can eventually be scaled to larger sizes, then that subpixel layout structure would be ideal for maintaining text clarity.

    ASUS has the ASUS ProArt PA32DC which has an RGB subpixel layout, however it costs $3500 and only does 60hz, but it is a great monitor for art based creators as it's 32'' size gives it a very good pixel density and being RGB, has the best color accuracy of any OLED on the market.

    Samsung uses VA panels with really bad viewing angles. The curve is absolutely necessary with those panels to preserve image quality on the edges of the screen. There are no 32" 4K OLED panels from LG because the W-OLED tech they use doesn't scale well to such a high DPI. Manufacturers know very well what the most popular monitor sizes are, and they would absolutely produce OLED panels at those sizes and resolutions if it was feasible and made financial sense to do so.

  • @MaaZeus

    @MaaZeus

    Жыл бұрын

    @@konga382 This. Curve is actually boon with VA panels as it almost eliminates the horizontal gamma shift. That and as you usually use monitors up close so the curve does not really cause picture geometry issues. Hell it may even reduce them in bigger screens when viewed up close. And we will get smaller OLEDs when LG manages to make them cost effective to produce. LG's WRGB OLED panel is the only sensible option to use as a monitor as it is more resistant to burn in compared to the normal pentile or RGB oleds which you see in smaller screens and phones.
