Big Block Mopar:Top End Complete!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is the Seventh video in a series of how to build a Big Block Mopar Engine. Using the steps in this series, you can build a big block Mopar at home. The engine being built is a 1970 RB 413 engine from a motorhome. I will be converting this engine into a nice street cruiser for a 74' model Dodge D100, that makes great torque and is very streetable. ‪@LunarOutlawsGarage‬ will hopefully check out this build. I hear he may have big block in his future.

    Dude. This is the best compliment I’ve ever received. I really made this series to help the average guy who wonders what he needs to do to rebuild his big block. So many people are scared to get in there and try it because the “experts” online are waiting to crucify them. It hurts the hobby and costs the average joe lots of money. Then he sells his project and loses interest. Hopefully I can keep the ball rolling!

    Love your channel and really dig building a 413. Can't wait to see how it does in the truck. Only thing I would have done different, since you already had the lifter valley exposed, would have been to install the push rods and rocker shaft assemblies in place before sealing up the valley. Of course, that's just me and it, obviously, works fine either way. I just know my luck and I would drop something in there and have to pull it back apart!

  • @JustMoparJoe

    @JustMoparJoe

    Thanks brother. I mentioned that in the video. The pushrods were at my shop(which is where we broke the engine in at). I basically sealed it up, loaded it, then went to the run stand that same day. It would have wasted 2 hours driving to get the pushrods, just to turn around and haul the engine back to the shop.

    Steve, you may want to try them next time. There was a gap on each side of this intake. With the gaskets, it was much less and uniform. My dad who was the sharpest Mopar mechanic I ever met, used them with the offenhauser tunnel ram in his 72 dart swinger for years. Never an intake leak. Track tested, over 1,000 passes, several track championships. I sure miss him.

    @@JustMoparJoe Hey Joe, I've been building mopar BB and RB's since the late 70's. Yes, now and then you come across an intake that was cast by a blind man with no hands, but you really should not need the gaskets with a valley pan. Matter of fact I have seen and even done it myself, reused a valley pan.. They are stamped with a sort of rolled seal. I use the red sealer they put in the package and a very small amount or sealer at the 4 corners and I have never had a manifold leak. As I said, they include the gaskets for poor sealing surfaces and for those who had shaved their heads. I have not looked at the paperwork in the kit in decades, but I believe that use to be in print from the manufacturer.. Same deal with Oldsmobile!!!! Exhaust manifolds have no gaskets either. Going to headers is going to need gaskets only because there isn't a large backbone to headers, so flexing creates leaks.

    Mr. Mopar Joe, I see that Lunar Outlaw has a 383 block. Should I get it and source parts from you or should I just wait and have you find me a good complete piece with all the parts? You have been in today's game and it's been years since I had to go get parts. I don't want to spend more money than necessary and want something that not only runs good but it's right and doesn't cost a couple of arms and legs getting parts. The stuff I do at work the guy won't deal with anything and spends tens of thousands on those projects. Meanwhile I get you know 6 bill a week maybe 7. Hopefully I will hear from you soon.
