    Hi, i'm from malaysia and i've seen, during the haj season where they slaughtered cows as a sacrificial offering and the meat distributed in 1 kilo packs to the poor and needy and all that were used were these parang/goloks for slaughter, bone cutting and heavier meat slices and a shorter version that is half the length for cutting the meat to a thumb size piece. They are the most versatile piece of blade that has multiple uses. Nearly every malaysian home has at least one. I'm a avid hiking and camping freak and all that i carry on these trips are just a golok for safety to clearing a trek of overhanging branches to clearing a campsite to chopping wood. The other tool is just a swiss army cadet used mainly for opening cans. I am 50 years old and have been carrying one that my grandad gave me at 15 when i was a boy scout. Wouldn't trade it for the world.

    I'm sure every Malay household would have one of this blade or a keris..not sure about the other though..anyway golok was design as a side arm for the locals to carry on them daily long time ago..a parang was design to do all the necessary chores around the house and in the jungle.

    Awesome! If you had to choose between this an the E-Nep, which would you pick and why? I got the E-Nep, and this looks impressive and the handle of this seems much better than the E-Nep. But I don't know which would last longer. This handle looks like it would be less likely to irritate your hand than the E-Nep. I wonder how rugged then standard handle would fare against the same wood and would it be more or less comfortable than the E-Nep.

    I would have been more impressed seeing the flat of the blade slapping the stop. Nevertheless, thanks to the video I am impressed. Thanks for the information about the bolster covering the pin. I would have thought no pin otherwise, although that wouldn’t unduly influence me negatively. The information I was looking for, and maybe I missed it, is the hardness. I don’t know if it was made hard to impress the western market with its excessive HRC or is more malleable. That is, how is it for field sharpening? Or can I expect a severe ordeal if striking a rock? Can you provide such information?

  • @WeAllJuggleKnives

    @WeAllJuggleKnives

    The blades are differentially hardened, so the edge is hardest to retain sharpness, but the body and spine are less hardened so it won't snap. These are great blades, I just got their Golok Perak (a more pointed Golok) and did a full review, great company!
