This is what the power of CINEMA can do. To make us feel the pain, agony, fear, humiliation, .... of the havenots . All the CGI can't move our hearts like the eyes of the kid and his tears on seeing his father beaten up. Has to top one among the highest in terms of all time performances.

Really good film. Somehow the film really makes you think that world is against him. In some scenes where he chases after the thief, he screams and nobody helps. But when he steals and somebody accuses him of being a thief, they all chase him. Brilliant!

I think there's definitely something to that idea. When Ricci makes off with the bike at 3:25, that other guy springs out of the doorway almost as if he was lying in wait for him. The first time I watched this scene, I was pressing my hand to my forehead, whispering "don't do it, man, don't do it," because I could already predict what was going to happen. The entire universe of this film has it in for Ricci!

What I love most about this scene is how it builds. Without any dialogue, you can see the gears turning in Antonio's head, as he contemplates doing something despicable simply so his family can eat another day. It makes us wonder, would WE do the same if presented with this situation?

Man, for some reason I really wanted him to get away with that bicycle. It's interesting how people can make movies that make you completely cheer on and feel for someone who's doing wrong. Powerful and beautiful scene.

I was sort of let down by him (but as a plot point it made me, the viewer, satisfied). You see how the World pushes someone to commit what was done to them. In this case, the story is a circle, there is nothing that differs between Antonio and the bycicle thief, because he became a bycicle thief. It's a World that is shown by the film to be mising empathy toward the other, there is no individual in the crowd Antonio and Bruno dissolve into in the final shot, but let's us in on what it means to live in those conditions and how we are conditioned by these.

it always gets me when I see the boy tries to help his defenceless father after he stole the bike and got caught by the crowd and grabbing his father's coat and crying "Papa! Papa!" 4:12 This movie is iconic in respect to it demonstrating us subconsciously the basis of all the economical problems in the world, then and now, which is overpopulation and its subsequent unemployment. Add wars to it, the problems are manifold. But today (as opposed to then when this movie was made) there is another problem, major problem. Today we should consider another factor that creates more unemployment: the outsourcing of the available jobs to India and hiring cheap Indian bad tech workers in the US and replacing them with American tech workers, all for the reason of cheap labor. Death to corporations because they're destroying the world. And FUCK Trump.
