Here the Hat reflects the self respect, where his son picks up the hat and his father dusts it and puts it back with a sigh and keeps walking down with alot of ppl i.e. the society. He could have ended with a sad note of not wearing his hat back, but the director accentuates the word "Forget and MOVE ON".

I wanted to watch this movie since a very long time, but finally watched today. I got so emotional while watching the movie. The struggle of a common working man. A true piece of art.

In the last scene their relationship got modified. They were no longer a father-son duo.. instead they became like 2 co-workers or 2 friend-in-arms walking together to take on the battle called Life.

In the following film, the features of neorealist films are quite present: the cast is not professional, and often regular people are acting; for instance, one of the main characters Antonio is not a professional actor. The settings are of real buildings and streets, the story in itself reflects the reality during that period in Italy. The filmmakers found and showed what was happing in Rome, what people were going through in such a good manner. I see the reality of Italian life in the film in the form of unemployment, adverse economic conditions, desperation, poverty, and hardship. “The bicycle thieves" can be considered the masterpiece of the birth of the neorealist film for which screenwriter Cecchi d’Amico has a lot to do.

So true. It´s a movie but we can understand this feelings. That means art. That´s why cinema can be so touching. I am from el salvador. Greetings.

A must watch film!!! loved the boy!! the restaurant scene which shows us the difference between the rich class and the poor class was beautiful!! Vittorio Di Sica did a great job.

Lessons: 1. People tend to make stupid decisions when in moments of sadness and weakness. Like he buys expensive lunches, goes to the trickster women wasted money and becomes hard on his son. Excellent examples of what NOT to do. Take control of your emotions and make the best possible decision. At least the situation will not be worst, and you will be better off on the path of recovery. 2. Don’t do unto others what cruelty has happened to you. Otherwise the viscus circle never stops. Don’t punish the person next to you for the crimes someone else. Otherwise a sad story of another Ricci may start. Life is hard but try to make the best of what you have, try to be contend and accept once you have tried one path. It is only one job lost, one path lost, there are many doors to knock on and many unexplored opportunities. Keep working hard with patience.

you forgot one of De Sica's most important values: you need to look at structural problems, rather than personal decisions, a working class man isn't to be judged for their position but is a victim to the class oppression. His bike being stolen is a trivial thing for many, but a devestating event for him.

Lessons can be learnt of course but when poverty kicks you in the belly, it kicks the morals too. You tend to buy ostentatious happiness for those whom you love, not thinking whether you can survive the next day and then again you try to go to the end of the world to make everything proper.

This movie is hands down one of the most incredible European productions I've ever watched. The historical context and the suffering of the main character just got me. It's pessimistic, but by the other hand, it's an accurate portrait of the Italians' life post WWII. Un classico d'il cinema italiano!

I will give this movie number 1 position in an all time greatest film ever made.Its simply incredible, there is no movie like the Bicycle Thieves.

Watch "Apu Trilogy" by Satyajit Ray

I was a 3rd year university student in 2004 -19 years ago. And while I were wondering in the library books I found my hand holding a book to read on, what read about was the review of the story about the movie in titled "The bicycle thief" today I watched and enjoyed it to the fullest extent of my emotions, the tears in my eyes are still to dry hard for me. What an award winning movie like that of" The champion 1:25:52 1:25:52 1:25:52 "

Such a masterpiece in world cinema history...they left it here but I aint complaining

This film was dubbed in Hindi and was widely shown even in small towns in India in early 1950s.I was ten years old and did not understant it much though never forgot the restaurant scene .An all time great movie.

An award winning non English movie ,with good quality n English subtitles. Amazing 👍 Before I forget First 🥇

This is masterpiece at its best. The black and white tones just add glamour to it. One of the movies that made Satyajit Ray into what he became. One of the best I have ever seen. Never gets old.

I didn't come here because of school. I heard that this was one of the best films ever. Such a masterpiece by Vittorio de Sica! I cried seeing the man's desperation.

It wasn't until the last 15 minutes that I began to appreciate what a really great film this is!

Every detail is cared for. The scene when he hits his son . They move distantly. Child on one side and father on the other. But as they approach the next tree, the boy swerves over, and father and son pass on the same side of it. Reconciliation . He asks him if he'd like pizza to make it up. Vittorio De Sica takes care of everything. The personal and social angles. Every family has their problem. The lady seeks a job for her bloke and shows around the scant belongings. We can pick pieces and make an entire whole out of it.

How cute the little boy is!.He is amazing ❤️

The problem in this movie is that even though there are many people present, when the main character's bike is stolen, nobody seems to care or take action to catch the thief. However, in a different scenario, when the main character does something similar in a place with fewer people, everyone is chasing the thief like a mob and manages to catch him. XD what plot ,It seems like the person who suggested this movie may have strong nostalgic feelings for it.(movie without mistake)......
