This movie is what the power of a SIMPLE STORYTELLING can touch many imaginative souls.

I think it stays with a child for ever and ever a father with no money,a father struggling to feed his family,yet at one time and many more later perhaps,a Hero. In memories later,a father without money is always A Hero.

great job! I think Martin Scorsese was right calling Italian neorealism a precious moment in film history, truly the films of that time are something else...

This is amazing. I love the comparison of how Bicycle Thieves handled their climactic scene compared to equivalent Hollywood films of the time. This helped visually explain their differences. Great work

the numerous references to Iranian cinema somehow gave me the feeling that u r iranian...so proud of u ... the content was thorough , the footage of the crew was fun to watch and the broad range of examples of movies accompanying the narration was so impressive...waiting to see more ... good luck

All I learned from this movie is that life is shit, has been shit and will always be shit. I put that checkmark on my list, now I move on.

Wonderful! Thank you! I commend "The Children Are Watching Us" as another masterwork from DeSica, though it has received less attention than his other films. It is neo-realist in many ways, though within a family of some means.

often mistranslated in america as "The Bicycle Thief", even though the italian title is "ladri di biciclette" ( =bicycle thieves) and the whole point of the film is that there is more than one thief. yeesh, beloved yank friends!

I think in this video essay I tried to show the vast and long lasting influence it had up until today! So perhaps it didn’t come across for you. Also French new wave to some extent was influenced by neo-realism specially in terms of using real locations and shooting on location and their more realistic approach to cinema
