Beyond Breast Cancer

Off to Sedona, Arizona in this one folks, where I challenge lymphedema to a low-air-pressure duel and Jim takes fifth and our friend John takes first in their age group in the Sedona Marathon and we see amazing things. Plus, time travel!

Well, you and Jim give an inspiration for me to take care of my Mom who had mastectomy and now in chemo treatment. i showed some of your videos to her, and she was inspired by your spirit in fight and getting through all treatments while you still doing what ur passion about (sports, arts, and social life). Hope you will be 100% cancer free, happy always! Cheers, Gandy

Hi Donna Thanks for your question. I'm so glad the videos are comforting to you. I was very depressed also by the idea of having to stay out of the sun, especially since my radiation took place in the middle of the summer! This is how I handled it: I rationalized that since I was not fair-skinned, I'd have less trouble. I wore sunscreen when I was running or biking (but not when I swam, in part because I swim almost entirely face-down, and also, my outdoor swimming took place early...(continued)

Hi Gandy! I thought I responded to this message when I saw it the first time but I don't see my response here so I will write now! I just read your comment to Jim and we both really appreciate it. Thank you so much! Good luck to your Mom! I hope she is doing well.

Hi Leah I feel for you. i had a really hard time starting it myself. I talk about it in some of my videos at the time. I got nauseous just thinking about it. But ultimately, I kept reminding myself that the statistics are very compelling that the drug helps, maybe more than chemo and radiation! I have not had any dramatic side effects. I just finished my 6th bottle of 90 pills today.

Hi Amy, Watched a few of your videos yesterday as you were getting ready to finish up radiation. I'm about to start next week. My question for you is you look so tan and healthy, swimming and being outdoors. I was told to avoid the sun during radiation. That depresses the hell out of me. Do you know something I don't know? Thank you for posting and being so real. I feel like I'm with a friend who is going through the same shit when I'm watching.

(part 2) in the morning and right before radiation (so I couldn't have anything on my skin.) Before putting my clothes on after treatment, I slathered myself with aloe gel and calendula cream, and reapplied many times throughout the day. I was obsessive with this. It may not be the same for you, but for me, this was enough. I felt nothing more than the stingy feeling of sunburn in that area. It never got in the way of my life. Hope this helps!

Hi, My name is Leah Reynolds. I recently had a dbl mastecomy and chemotherapy. 8 rounds. I am supposed to be starting tamoxifen and i just can't do it!! Are you still doing it? What are your thoughts. it seems more side effects than it actually helps? Looking into alternatives both for recurrence and in lieu of tamoxifen?
