    Popular "Country" hasn't been Country for decades now. It's mostly pop and rap with a twang. From that perspective, Beyonce is a logical fit for the current form of the genre. Beyonce hasn't made some groundbreaking genre shift away from pop; the genre of Popular Country itself has shifted toward pop. However - calling her a Black Country artist in the same breath as Charlie Pride, Lee Greenwood or Tracy Chapman is an insult to those artists who are true masters of the authentic form of the Country genre who also happen to be black.

  • @judyLee-ov8yd

    @judyLee-ov8yd

    Tracy Chapman is not considered a country artist. Charlie Pride is a country artist. However you have lost sight of the reason for this album and how many Black country artists that people knew nothing about is being recognised because of this album. The first female country singer who had to give up singing because of racism and her fear for her life is finally getting her flowers. When they say Beyonce is a country artist they are not saying she is a country music singer , they are talking about her roots. Her father is from Alabama, her mom from Louisiana and she was born in Texas and grew up there.

    Anyone who's studied modern music history ought to know that country, jazz, and rock&roll all came from blues. Old folk songs from Britain did not have those beats, or sound combinations. Even symphonic music changed, to explore these new sounds. This isn't controversial; it's well-documented history. You can take courses about it. Or listen to some bluegrass, blues, and celtic-type folk music, like for a few months, and maybe your ears will tell you why country music came out of the blues, not Nordic folk songs.

  • @renatheer

    @renatheer

    Ай бұрын

    Older nordic folk songs is also heavy with percussion and beats, but it's not as light and the rythms aren't making you want to move and dance the same way as the influences from Africa and african slaves in the americas. Music is one of the finest examples of how we are better when we work together than when we segregate. Most countries have at least one litte influence from old on the instruments and genres we have now.

    Fun Fact... This album was actually Act i, initially, and Renaissance was meant as Act ii. In lieu of the pandemic, Bey decided to hold off on putting this one out. Once the shutdowns ended and we were able to get "back outside" she and her team decided that RENAISSANCE should go out first - because it was what the world needed. Dance, free expression, fun and partying. So this county genre-blend album has just been sitting for a few years and was supposed to be the FIRST album release, which is WILD when you consider it.

    Cowboy Carter was originally suppose to be Act 1 but because the pandemic the world was to heavy and in such a dark place she decided to put renaissance out instead because the world needed to dance and an escape from the chaos, so she held on to Cowboy Carter for act 2. If you listen to the last 6 or 7 songs on the album the tempo picks up and it starts to sound like renaissance because Cowboy Carter was already finished before renaissance was complete. I’m glad she did it this was instead because it makes more sense.

Even the artist who has won this particular award said the same thing while giving their exceptional speech. It's systematic racism at its finest. Whenever a person of colour is at the top or moving the that direction, especially blacks, racists don't like it and Beyoncé is a threat it's called “white fear,” and it's ridiculous there's no need for it everyone should be treated equally.

    Well my opinion want it or not. I lstened to it and as a person who has listened to country for years, I dont see it. Yes their were a couple that sounded country but not many. To me country is a sound and affect. For example the Beatles on some of their albums did some country but that didnt make it a country album. So its a music album but not really country. My opinion and Im sticking to it.

    What is the point of this "round table debate"? 'Cowboy Carter' is a naff, cheap and squalid album and they're all too afraid to say it. Beyonce doesn't care about Country music and is doing it to gin up some publicity and flog her mediocre songs. P.S. The origins of Country music are rooted solely in the plaintive folk songs of Scotland, Ireland, England and Wales.

    Music is universal. It belongs to everybody. No matter what genre you wish to sing. Go for it! Traditionally Country has been White good ole boys & white country women. Then they added some Black gentlemen who sing country they have been accepted to the country fold. All Beyonce has done is open the door for black ladies to enter. It is time for Black ladies to sing country too. Beyonce had a point to make to certain people after the chilly reception she got at the CMAs a few years ago. She has made her point. Her answer is very enjoyable to listen to!

    I see people just love to repeat the same talking points when it comes to Beyoncé. “She’s not country” “she uses writers” blah blah. This woman has been performing at rodeos since a child. This lady has won ASCAP song writing awards. The first black woman to win one actually. The most Grammys awarded EVER, 25 years in the game and still topping the charts. The reason she is so respected in the industry is because she shares her platform with other up and coming artist and writers. A lot of them got their feet in the door bc of powerhouses like Beyoncé. She is not greedy when it comes to creating art. Continue to hate all you want, but it will not change the facts.
