Beware! You Must Do This Every Time You Eat Chia!

Chia seeds are super nutritious and fun to eat.
They're used in a variety of recipes including puddings, pancakes and parfaits.
Chia seeds have the unique ability to absorb liquid and take on a gelatinous consistency. Because of this, they're often used as a thickener and can even be used as a vegan substitute for eggs in some baked goods.
In addition to their gelling and thickening properties, chia seeds are also known for their impressive variety of nutrients and potential health benefits.
Although chia seeds are a nutritious addition to most people's diets, their consumption can have some side effects.
This video explores the side effects of chia seeds.

I let it rest for about two minutes then stir it and add some more cold low fat milk so it isn't too stodgy. Then I eat it. The main point here is this. Always mix your chia seeds in with some liquid to expand it first. Water, milk, juice etc. Once the seeds expand to a jelly state, which could be anything from 10 minutes onwards, then you're good to go.

Even spoonfuls dry wouldn't really be a problem unless you don't swallow and use more water if need be. Most people are naturally going to wet them somehow because they're more palatable that way. Most of these warnings seem to be related to people who have medical issues already.

@@MatoNupaiI did specify the oesophagus....the seeds will be past the oesophagus before they begin to expand. The stomach has multiple folds known as rugae which allow the stomach to stretch to accommodate a considerable volume. So to cause a problem there an individual would need to consume a considerable quantity of seeds. OESOPHAGUS...was my comment.

  • @MatoNupai

@@robinmarwick1982 apparently you didn’t read my reply. Problem is neither the esophagus nor the stomach. The problem is in the INTESTINES. If they expand there you will have a blockage, and possible tear in the intestinal wall. The intestines are between the stomach and the anus.

  • @robinmarwick1982

@@MatoNupaiyes belive it or not I learned that intestines were between the stomach even before I went to med school. If you had read and understood my comment you would have seen my comment was about the oesophagus...between the mouth an the stomach. But no you make a blanket remark about me not understanding and then proceed to ramble about intestines. As a point of interest an intestinal rupture caused by the seeds is equally unlikely as the seeds would remain in the stomach for 4 to 6 hours.
